if you get all the kit (though get a price for supply from your installers and compare with the likes of toolstation / screwfix as they may get a better deal being in the trade etc) and have all the carpets up etc with the house in a state that you wont mind a lot of mess so they can work quicker (they call rewiring house-bashing!) then it shouldn't cost that much. Its a bungalow so super easy wiring runs (no floors to have to wire in between) and access to loft and under house. Remember that tradesmen are also gagging for work at the minute so should present you a good price. I would get three quotes and go with the guys that inspire most confidence and feel the best - you dont want to go with a cowboy at a cheaper price only to have all your lights blow the week after they leave or anything Price will be dependant on your area and how cheap the trades are willing to go at the mo (haggle!) but you should come in well below your 3k for supply and install IMO.

I got a 3-bedroom terrace re-wired (using a similar amount of kit to what you've listed) for a whisker under £2k a few years ago. It may have been a while ago, but Id be surprised if prices have one up any given the current economic climate, and a 2 bed bungalow should be less work. IME a lot depends on location - in London or too close to it and everything gets more expensive, provided you're far enough north or west 2-3k should do it comfortably, especially if you can pay cash - there's enough sparks scratching for work at the moment that the chance to make a quick £1k or more on top of materials for what amounts to only a few days pretty straightforward work shouldnt make one too hard to find

should do that in 7 days easy. You have a massive advantage in that the house is empty and the walls are to be replastered - most time wold be spent on a rewire if the decor had to be kept intact! Your situation, they will knock bells out of everything to get it done and no worries as it will be replastered. agree with TAC, you wil get a good price at the moment - get three quotes if you can. I would recommend if your going to stay in the house for a while that you spec good quality fittings like MK as if you dont and are looking for the best price, they will stick in rubbish which will look and feel cheap. It will only add say another 50-100 quid tops to the price but would be worth it IMO and is what I would do.

Cat 5 etc is for internal networks. Think of your computer connections, plus if you have a smart TV you would be able to connect it direct to broadband, via a router. I may be starting a similar project in the future and will also cat 5 the entire house. A sensible thing to do I reckon and not too difficult to do when rewiring the whole house.

If you have teh time do it yourself man and youll save a few quid. Get an electrican to come out and disconnect all your wiring and you rip it all out and rewire yourself. It so easy to do, if you can wire a plug then you can rewire your house. All you need to do is get teh electrican out again to check it all and hook it up to teh fuse box.

I would go cat6 rather than cat5 - gives you more possibility in the future and can carry hdmi signal over a single run with the correct baluns. 2x cat 6 to every TV outlet as well as a couple of coax lines, even if you dont terminate them it is very handy having them there. Also in the lounge, wire for surround sound speakers etc . rule is cable is cheap so put as much in as you think you imagine you might need x2 - its so much more expensive to retro fit it once decorated etc.
