200kg bench - would you believe this/possible without AAS? - 03 November 2009 16:03 ( #1 )
ok so usually i dont care what people say they can lift, but this one well the circumstances around it annoyed me a little.

i was basically being judged for using AAS, which i usually dont mind but then this one bloke as we're walking out the door pipes up to me "i can bench 200kg" this is after looking down his nose at me for using AAS.

i replied with "was that shirted or not" and his response which made me think he was full of sh1t was "erm yeah an olympic bar"

now i would assume that anyone who can bench press 200kg would know what a bench shirt is, i'd also assume they took AAS, this bloke was pretty big he was thick set but not lean at all so he had a powerlifter look to him, albeit a bit smaller and he was short so looked prime for benching with his stumpy little arms.

i know it's possible but how possible is it? i just doubt there are that many people out there that are clean that could get anywhere near a 200kg bench press and even those that can would be wearing a shirt.

should i have called bullsh1t?

when he said "erm yeah an olympic bar" you should have first slapped him upside the head, and then said "no, you cretin! were you wearing a bench shirt?"
im sure there are a few natties that can bench 200k raw, but they would be few and far between, and definitely a succesful competitive powerlifter. if this man is not, then you should have called bullsh*t.

Well if the genetics are 100% perfect then there is a possibility but in 99.9% of cases i'd say it would be unrealistic. I turned to the darkside long before 100k lol

He can probably bounce 200kg off his chest with the help of a rower spotter

As for people being natural or not, with strangers I just assume nobody is natural these days, the number of people using has increased dramatically since just ten years ago IMO

Theres a guy at my uni who benched 190kg RAW at under 84 kg I think has gone heavier, just google Rob Palmer bench on you tube. If involved in powerlifting and training for that purpose I don't see why not, however you would need to be blessed with some god given talent as well.

i wouldnt have put this bloke in the same class as fat pete as a lifter either.

i think that alone answers my question.

It's definatley possible for some people, but judging by his response to your question, i suspect he's full of bs.

when he said that, you should have said "awesome mate, thats pretty strong. so how much can you squat and deadlift"
at which point he says "what are squat and deadlift?"

Of course 200kg without AAS is possible. People benched that before AAS become available to lifters many years ago.

But I'd say this guy is full of ****. No see no bench.

Sivvy that was fcuking strong at 19 and natural good going, what you putting up these days?

Ive seen only one person bench 200kg who i believe was natural. I think the chance of a 200kg raw and without gear is TINY.
