£60 to join UKBFF plus £5 show entry fee?? 03 March 2011 14:34 (permalink)
Ive just received forms for a young lady who wanted a try at competing in a UKBFF show

The forms say £60 for a 4 year membership  and a £5 show entry fee!

£65 is a lot to shell out for one show just to enter it. Has the annual UKBFF membership option gone?

No different to any fed in any other sport.

My missus rides horses and the federation membership + show entry fee's i feel glad to only pay £60 for 4 years.

I joined Nabba with a lifetime membership back in the 80s, wonder if they'd still honour that today

over 4 years it works out cheaper, as it was 20 a year.  for people who intend competing every year its a decent deal, but surely it will put people off who want to do a show to see if its for them or not.

60 quid is alot of money to shell out if your not sure wether you will compete again, and ontop of everything else, it could be enough to deter people.

it would have been good if they had offered a yearly membership as well, say for £25.  that way people could have the option of saving money for a single show, or saving money over the years

aaron i do think its different to other sports, most offer an annual membership, do they not?

I really hope there IS an option of annual else they're shooting themselves in the foot !!

what with this and the loyalty rule, people have to know for sure that they want to only do UKBFF, and want to do it for 4 years to benefit from it.

Who here KNOWS they will compete for the next 4 years??? thats a long time to commit to knowing you then cant do any other federation else you void your own membership.

If you're happy to pledge the next 4 years of your life to the UKBFF alone, and know you'll compete every year come what may in your personal life,  then yes its a fair price.

But HOPEFULLY there will be an annual option still and its been missed off the form

this girl only wants to try it this one year.........shes not planning on making a career of it....it will DEFINITELY put people off.

The interesting thing about this 4 year membership..............I wonder if they are doing it so that if you compete with another fed within that time then your membership is null and void meaning you join up again to compete with them again thus they make more money??!!??

i would imagine its to encourage loyalty,,,im more inclined to think it will backfire on them which is a shame

how could they possibly police over a 4 year period though?

You get your membership revoked now if you compete elsewhere ?? I thought you only lost your invite to the finals ?

If that's true, I am utterly disgusted.

Like I said earlier clarification on this subject would be nice, blocking you to a four year deal is far too much in my opinion and an option should be given. I hope the UKBFF takes peoples view on board fully and acts accordingly.

UKBFF ask for loyalty for whatever reason rightly or wrongly, BUT and a lot of people were using the loophole of doing the British champs, then competing for other federations all year, then rejoining UKBFF later in year doing a late qualifier - (bit risky if everyones doing that!) and then qualifying for the British again.
Those who do early qualifiers like hercules and london classic and get their invites, cant do this without risk of having invite revoked, so it makes it the same  for everyone now

i guess the only explanation that would make sense  is that this is something the IFBB are insisting on??? (then it wouldnt have to make any logical sense...if ya get me)

It certainly wouldn't unless the IFBB have the same ruling. If this is not the case then there's no hiding behind the "it's the IFBB ruling" that has always been said when people are not allowed to compete elsewhere!!

personally, and maybe im alone here, i dont really have a problem with the loyalty rule.  It is what it is, and i can fully understand it.

that said, they do make some very strange decisions sometimes, that seem to be neither for the good of the sport or their athletes.

personally i support the UKBFF, but it doesnt always feel like that support is a 2 ways street, which it should be.  but then, im sure its not an easy thing to do running a federation and keeping everyone happy!
