A couple of Q's that need some A's.

By those who are far more knowledgeable than me. 1. For the last 2, 3 weeks I've been training chest - I've been absolutely fine until I get to the incline. When I start to struggle, no matter the set or rep I feel a shooting pain in the front of my shoulder. To cover a few points, my form is fine, the bench is just a few notches up from flat so the stress isn't on my shoulder. And on shoulder days I cover front raises. What could the problem be? It really does affect my lifting, but not so much I can't carry on, I tend to only feel it with incline. 2. My mate has been stretching both my legs and lower back after my cardio sessions, which follows my weights. Now I feel so much better after because I have had problems with my lower back and hamstrings for a couple of years now, and I really want to continue this until my flexibility is to an acceptable standard and my problems slowly but surely subside. Now, really he's the only one who works in the gym who understands what and what doesn't work when it comes to stretching so when he works I'm much rather stretch myself. The problem is it's difficult by myself! Does anyone have any suggestions on stretching that doesn't necessarily require pressure off someone else, and if yes is there a certain video you could recommend? Regards.

I'd speculate that it might be something to do with inactivity of your scapula. This is a problem I've seen with a lot of athletes who do quite a lot of benching and perhaps not enough scapular work. Short term fix, but try some raises in the scapular plane to 'engage' your scapula more prior to and after the movement. As the others will tell you, it's better to try and find a specialist who can see you first hand. Re stretching, Kelly Starrett's MobilityWOD is an absolute must, there is loads of good content on his site. Definitely check it out.

Thanks for the reply mate. I've not trained for 2 days because of my shoulder but it feels a lot better now and I have researched scapular work which I will try tomorrow. Not had a chance to look at Kelly Starrett's MobilityWOD website but I certainly will tomorrow. Again, thanks for the reply.
