Acclimatisation diet 21 January 2012 13:35 (permalink)
I did my first weights session yesterday (I know I joined this site in 2002 but Im a slow starter!) and I'm well aware it will take me a few weeks to get up to speed and learn how to perform the exercises properly etc. I did an upper body session yesterday and I was only able to lift pretty small weights (15-20kg barbell and 7.5 kg dumbbells) while completing the 15 reps the instructor recommended me to do. I asked him about diet and he told me not to worry about eating a lot of extra calories for the next few weeks while my body gets used to it. I am unsure because I feel that my body will want to grow from day 1 given the right stimulus. The diet I am planning to follow is

262g protein per day   350g carbs  116g fat  3524 calories

Breakfast
30g whey shake w. skimmed milk
100g oats  w. Dried Fruit

Snack 9,30
Tuna/salmon Pitta/with salad (avocado)
1 slices rye volkornbrot with peanut/almond butter

Lunch  12.30pm
2 wild salmon fillets/other fish
wholegrain rice 1.5 cups, veggies

PreWO (30 mins before)
Whey shake 20g (16g protein)
Fruit - banana/apple/orange

Train 2.30pm

PostWO 3.30
Whey 40g
Casein 20g
Dextrose

PPWO 5.30
120g Chicken with 100g wholegrain rice and veg
Fruit salad  cherries, blueberries
Handful Nuts and Seeds inc Flax
 glucosamine

Dinner 8pm
Ragu made with 200g lean beef mince
large sweet potato
veggies
MultiVit, glucosamine

MEAL SIX  9pm
Cottage cheese or quark
Pro Peptide

Middle of Night
20g Casein

Should I go with this from day 1 or follow the instructors advice?

if you plan to eat like that then make adjustments to your current diet to work towards that, if you eat nothing like the diet plan then jumping on that will be hard work to stick to.

i would just have normal whey pwo and have casein before bed, i also wouldnt intentionally be waking up in the night, if you wake up fine but dont be disrupting sleep to have a shake.

it looks like a lot of food (like the rye bread inclusion though) so depends what your starting stats are.

Thanks D, it is my first stab and I agree that the casein in the night idea was just for if I woke up (there was a new arrival in my family recently and I have been getting woken up during the night quite a bit!) rather than deliberately waking myself. I'm 6ft 1 btw and currently 166lbs and looking to gain mass. I was about 200lbs but I leaned out deliberately because I thought it would save me grief later on!

I spotted the rye in aldi last week so thats the reason for it being in there! Interesting you would just go with the whey pwo, should I save the carbs for later and ditch the pwo casein? I have been tapering up my food intake the last 3 weeks or so eating more wholefoods, oats, chicken, brown rice, tuna etc and I ate about 75% of the plan I posted today without any problems or bloating.
Having worked out for the 1st time yesterday I really felt my body was demanding food which is a relief because I was dreading having to stuff it down!
