Accurately Mixing Different Protein Powders??
06 February 2012 17:59
( permalink)
How do I accurately mix different brands of protein to a certain ratio? eg. 20% MaxiMuscle, 40% Nutrisport, 40% PhD (That's just an example) What would be an accurate way to mixing this as per each scoop, it's the exact same ratio? I don't want to invest in industrial machinery of course! I know all about 'V' blenders and that.. Need something simple for the kitchen with little mess. Thanks very much!

Not sure why you'd want to mix them but what about using 1 Maximuscle scoop for the maximuscle powder and use 2 scoops of the same maximuscle scoop for the other 2 powders thereby getting twice the maximuscle powder ie: maximuscle 20% and Nutrisport 40% and PhD 40%.

Since the density of the powders is likely to be different, I'd weigh them and do it that way. If going by volume then WhiteSnakes suggestions is fine.

Yes, see that's the problem - the density. I think I would use weight, rather than volume. Blending them all together in something like a coffee grinder should bring it all to the same size, but there's no means of knowing if each scoop is going to have the exact same ratio as the one previous to that - This is my problem There must be a way to do it, considering Maximuscle do it and many other protein manufactures

Just weigh it. Can I just ask why you want to do this though?

CitizenKane Just weigh it. Can I just ask why you want to do this though? Yes, Certainly. The plan was to mix MaxiRaw, nutrisport, some casein & creatine to make a cheaper all round protein shake to take in the morning/night for the days I don't train. It would be a money saver and a space saver too while making it a bit easier for myself (just throw a scoop in the shaker and know it's already weighed out) due to having two young children to tend to in the mornings. I'd want to be sure the scoop would be of the amount of each supplement I take daily if you understand? Just something I'm looking into; thought it would be handy but might be too much work in the short-run!

Just something I'm looking into; thought it would be handy but might be too much work in the short-run! I make shakes in exactly the same way, however I do from scratch each time. I'm sure this is very common amongst the more money-concious lifters. I have some digital pocket scales that weigh up to 100g to an accuracy of 0.01g, bought from MP for £20. They're precise enough to weigh caffeine powder accurately yet also work perfectly for shakes, perhaps you need something like this? I wouldn't bother with trying to make a massive pre-made blend. You're always going to be wondering if you're getting the ratios you're after, and settling of different ingredients may happen over time. Most of my shakes I don't bother weighing out any more since I'm so used to how much of the scoop/s I need to use. Perhaps I'm not as particular as you though!

A good idea - and as above use scales at the start and then when comfortable you can go by feel/skill etc. you might be off a small bit but imo no big deal. Personally I like to add unflavoured to flavoured - cuts the price and most flavoured products can take extra whey and still taste fine.
An Alterego is a paradoxical escape.

Okay, thanks for the help! Thought I was the only person that thought this would be a good idea! I guess there's no means of doing it accurately without the industrial equipment.. If it was all blended together into the finest granules possible and mixed it again, this would probably be the best way to do it at home. Doesn't sound like there's anything else than this method that's feasible

I don't under why maxiraw and nutrisports? why not one or the other? Or use Maxiraw's blend 60% whey 20% soya 20% casein...
