Any Electricians, need advice re Regulations

After some advice re the change in regulations that I'm told happended around two years ago. As I'm after new lights for my house, internal ones, for bathroom, kitchen and a few other rooms but have been told conflicting information. Some say that due to a change in the regulations about two years ago you can no longer fit lights or electrical sockets etc in your home yourself and you have to get a qualified electrician in to do it (who has done the new course?) and get the relevant paperwork from them once its done to say its been checked and meets the new standards etc and others say thats a load of bollox anyone in the know able to shed some light on the matter?

i wouldnt worry about it mate, if you want to change them yourself then do so. as far as i know there is no requirement to have newly installed light fittings tested and certified. why are you worried about it mate? even if it was the regs, type of light fitting wouldnt be listed on the test certs for your house anyway, so there would be no way of anyone to prove they werent fitted at the time of test if you were selling your house or whatever
