Anyone ever wonder.....
-

if or ever they will bring a "ready made meal" products for body builders? like in asda, in the frozen section, having Ready made, just used as an example. :"chicken rice and peas" which would have aprox 30-50g of protein, 50-100 g carbs - good fats also and be about 300-500 calories per meal depending whether you chose the "Bulking" product or the "Cutting" product or one day, going to a restaurant or a place to eat like the Harvester, picking up the menu and seeing a section of meals that are bodybuilder or Athlete orientated. or going to KFC and having a bodybuilding burger, chicken burger = breast with say a wholemeal bun with extra extra light mayo lol or a macdonalds big mac using angus beef mince cooked diffrently with say, extra light oil ect.. or pizza hut /dominoes pizza = the bb special wholemeal dough base cottage cheese for the cheese Squashed real tomatoes for the sauce? lol chicken breast beef chunks sweetcorn onions ever wonder if this will happen in years to come?? also would anyone think it would actually be a business opportunity that would be successful, especially the ready made meals. my mind drifts sometimes and i wondered about this.

I find there are plenty of quick fix options out there that fit the bill. Anything relatively 'clean' is fine IMHO (even some not so 'clean'). The last thing you want to be doing is worrying about each and every gram of nutritional breakdown TBH

I suppose the main problem would be everybody's bulking/cutting calories and requirements are different. Plus I doubt the supermarket's would want to give up valuable shelf space to such a small market when compared to how many "Junk" ready meals they can shift from the same space.

Its great for us but if you were a Marketing Manager in Pizza hut and you came up with that they would just be like Mixer the market is too small so lets just go with the Tex Mex Chicken, it will appeal to a much wider audience.

Its a niche that has some merit i think. Most mass markets begin as niches. Large companies ignore niches as they are not worth exploiting as if you have a billion dollar business and have ambition for growth of 5-10% per annum then small niches are not worth the hassle. A small company could exploit this though. The niche could then very easily more mainstream when people see they have a choice between a "junk" ready meal and a "healthy" ready meal, especially with how health conscious people are becoming these days will begin to choose the healthy option. The biggest problem with this would be to start off you would want to brand it BB specific but to move mass market they you would need to loose this branding to avoid the stigma attached.

You could not market it at bodybuilders in a supermaket, its too much of a niche. You would have to pass it off as healthy food for those wanting to eat healthy, which appeals to a wider public. The problem with this is the fact your USP would be the nutritional breakdown - i.e. you would have high protein content, suitable carbs, etc. Those who weight train and are in the know may then purchase your products, but your selling price would be higher than the high profile food retailers who produce healthy products (for countless reasons; economies of scale, the price of your higher quality ingredients), so I doubt you would be given any shelf space in the first place due to the price you would have to charge. A housewife wanting the healthy choice would likely pick up the weightwatchers ready meal which a quid or two cheaper.

hmm i guess only time will tell, who knows what the future brings lol! maybe they will have vending machines that will create dissposable protein shakes, say press 1 for 30 g of protein and 30 g of malto or press 2 for 50g of protein and 50g of malto then select flavour - chocc/strawberry with either water or skimmed milk! lol that would be funny - instead of only just having sports drinks/water/pop saying that though in tokyo they have vending machines on the streets with womens dirty panties.. so anythings possible

i agree hardcore gyms would love it. Myprotein.com would probably even supply, say 1pound - the same price as a bottle of coke or a bottle of water 10 x 50g = 500g = 10 quid 500g of impact whey protein without bulk disscount ect = £5.25 im sure all would agree 1 quid for a shot of 50g protein on a vending machine would be cheap? say at 150ml or 200ml of water. the strawberry protein from my protein i use at home, its lovely, mixes instantly, no lumps. lol jackpot ^_^ obviously its not as simple as that, but i can see a profitable outcome if all worked out correctly and if it was liked.

Cottage cheese......... pizza! yuk I'm sure I've walked past low-fat ready meals in the supermarket, is that not what you're after? If you really want a wholemeal pizza, you could just drive over a loaf of bread and put your cottage cheese on top.

if i remember correctly, im sure james, or someone else from muscle talk did some research into the possible market size with a view to launching a product range. as far as i know they didnt, so that must say something about the results the research turned up?

Have a look here: http://naturalsportsnutritionltd.com/ These guys have been setting up for a couple of years and are really taking it seriously. They are nearly due to launch. They will be at Body Power in 2010. Healthy Action were involved in the recipe production.

Some M&S snacks/ready lunches are resonable, otherwise have you never heard of a chicken breast wholemeal roll, or similar, if I am stretched I 'll buy 2 wholemeal rolls and some salmon/smoked etc.. with a bag of prepared salad and a yogurt drink or something, again M&S do a nice yogurt drink with blended oats in around 20 or so grammes of protein - not too bad.
