Are amino acids sups worth taking

when looking to bulk up and if so when?

Already planning on having a protein shake and creatine supplement in there along with alot of good food!

My goal will be to add a minimum of 1lb lean muscle per month every month for 9 months after the show i'm doing in may.

They are not worth taking in my opinion mate. Just eat plenty of protein. It's a far better ( and cheaper ) way of getting all them aminos!

This is a article i found

Some research has shown that supplemental branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) (typically 10 to 20 grams per day) do not result in meaningful changes in body composition,233 nor do they improve exercise performance or enhance the effects of physical training. However, BCAA supplementation may be useful in special situations, such as preventing muscle loss at high altitudes and prolonging endurance performance in the heat. One controlled study gave triathletes 6 grams per day of BCAA for one month before a competition, then 3 grams per day from the day of competition until a week following. Compared with a placebo, restored depleted glutamine stores and immune factors that occur in elite athletes, and led to a reported one-third fewer symptoms of infection during the period of supplementation.242 Studies by one group of researchers suggest that supplementation may also improve exercise-induced declines in some aspects of mental functioning

In answer to your original question , some people belive that amino's improve the amino profile of certain protein meals ie- tuna does not have as good a amino profile as whey but if you add a few amino tabs then you can make it better - hope that makes sense

I am kind of going by the late Pual Borrenson's logic that the best proteins have a amino profile as close to that of human muscle as poss. ie. human flesh would be the best protein source , dont eat your training partner on the back of this though as I am pissed and may be mistaken

BCAA are pretty worthless unless you are cutting.
Instead you could take EAA pre-workout. Those can really help.

In a word...no. There is no real good evidence to suggest that supplementing with individual aa's will be beneficial if one's diet is well structured, and they are a waste of money IMHO, at least when talking about essestial amino acids.

in one of those moments searching the holy grail...and the secret to amazing bodybuilding results...I bought 1500 amino acid tabs in H&B...which I will be taking religiously 2 with with every meal and my next lean bulk cycle.....Looking back..i probably wouldnt buy them again...but they were cheap, they arent going to harm my progress and they will, if only slightly, improve the amino acid ratio and balance of my meals....but I dont honestlyu be able to report back in 8 weeks with a positive report based on their use..my gains will be mainly down to eating well, resting well, training hard etc im sure.

Like I say...they cant make me any worse tho!
