Are smoothies the way to go?
15 January 2012 18:55

I travel a lot with work, and it's facing clients, meaning I can't really step out to look for a place with good, protein-filled lunches during the day. So I was thinking of buying a blender, making two protein shake-full of smoothies and having those, plus lunch, through the day. Is this a good plan? Will it give me enough protein throughout the day to grow? I'm looking to gain mass. Thanks

There's no reason why not, ingredient dependant of course, I have one every morning as opposed to breakfast, I've never been able to face eating first thing in a morning so for me there convenient.

I'm about to do the same, don't really have time in the morning to have breakfast and end up eating in work about 10 am. Got some whey protein, ground oats and peanut butter.

However there are other options also. You could prepare meals the night before and keep them in a coolbox ready for later? Something along the lines of a chicken/salmon/tuna salad would be ok as you wouldn't have to reheat. Protein bars are an option also.

Peanut butter and oats in is a good idea. I've found that most of my male clients looking to bulk find that smoothies fill them up too much and they struggle to get enough calories the more liquid they have. They're probably ok for one meal but I agree a cooler bag with real food is better - if you're near a supermarket pre-cooked chicken breast is ideal or lean beef, tins of salmon etc.

I make mine with things like cottage cheese, oats, quark, peanut butter, natural yogurt, froozen fruit etc. I have 3 shakes per day as i dont have time in work to eat soild meals

Good point, some nice sounding things you have in yours Paul! I often chuck back a shake in-between clients it's really convenient and healthy especially if you're using things like Paul mentioned. Quark is such a great, cheap protein!! I used to whip it up with protein powder and berries, so tasty!
