NR, I stretch every day. Since doing so I have found I am less injury prone, particulary around the lower back.

I only stretch after weights. Since I turned 60 I've increased the weight and decreased reps. I broke my (fairly pathetic) deadlift record a couple of weeks ago.

there is a guy in this section who is 73,hes a star i have to say. Good to hear you so positive mate,i train 3 times a week weights but i also like to keep reasonably fit, so run a bit.i dont want to be big as it holds me back from my running, But would be nice to achieve a reasonable physique at some point,i try hard as we all do; but it certainly is a lot harder once you reach 40 plus. Keeping clear of injuries takes some thought now, it never used to did it.

I started a new job 8 weeks ago, and one of the many great things about it is I train at lunch during the week. This has meant a massive upgrade in the amount of work i can get through, and to help I have dropped the weights and try and turn the sessions into a weights/cv workout. I also do one days weights, one days CV and repeat and am loving it despite being in the gym a lot more. Now if I could only stop eating so much chcocolate, biscuits and cake Id be there !

Hi , id like to sidetrack this if i could with apologies to OP but i just wonder if its possible to still gain muscle as we age without the use of aas , ds or ph. In my case its even more frustrating because i get testosterone legally every 11 weeks , so for about 5 of those , i have test levels which are close to max of the reference range for a man Alevel i suspect is comparable to a guy in late 20s early 30s -thats just a guess so is there a missing link -something that doesnt make the body as responsive as we age? i train 4 x a week , about 1 hr each time , do cardio which i limit to walking (fast metabolism) Take usual supps -creatine , bcaa, and more, eat well and clean, is it now a case of just training to keep in shape and stay healthy -i m baffled especially when im getting the hormone which is the basis of building muscle and at a level comparable to a younger man advice please

Re:As you get older how has your training changed?

I'm 47, and one thing I have consciously changed is to add cross training. Years ago if I was doing one kind of sport or exercise I found I could quite naturally, and easily, move to another kind of thing and be on top of it pretty quick. A few years ago I had a big surprise - I had continued working out with weights, but when I decided to go for a run for the first time in years I found I could only manage 1 miel before I was gasping. That shocked me because throughout my youth I could probably run out the door and on for 4-8 miles without much effort. So what I do these days, is always add a run, a cycle, a swim and full body stretch every week, on top of whatever else I am doing. I don't feel any less fit, but I am aware that as time passes I have to use it or lose it - a great incentive! Actually, I just posted my routine in the routines forum if anyone would like to comment.

As it happens, I am 40 in 10 weeks time and I am training more intensely than ever. This has come about through solid intention and also circumstance, my new work being fine about me training during the day. Such is my renewed vigour and vitality that I am going to supplement my bodybuilding/CV activities with some MMA, having found a good club nearby. The only time I feel my age is sometimes in the morning, a few more groans than I used to have !

I am 42. And, just got back into training (about 6 months ago) from about 10/11 years out. I still have a fair bit of strength; my muscles are constantly saying 'more, more, more!' But, my tendons and connective tissues are saying 'less, less, less!'. My connective tissues have weakened drastically, and being very conscious of potential injury, I have had to completely change my workouts. Now I tend to use the pre-exhaustion method. My first exercise will usually consist of much more reps with a lighter weight and finishing with the final set, being a drop set. This way I don't need to go as heavy with the rest of my workout, thus taking the strain off my connective tissues (and joints). I am easing myself back into my training slowly, and am more conscious of general health more than anything else. So, I tend to do a lot more cardio and stretch before workouts (I used to neglect both). My diet is also much much better (no more junk). My workouts are now more intense than they used to be. There are lot more supplements on the market than there were 11 years ago. And, I am taking full advantage of the pre-workout supplements. Am currently using either No Xplode/Cytonox mix (1 scoop of each) or Musclepharm Assault.

I've reverted back to good old compounds. Deads and Zercher squats (I train at home in garage and have better control versus normal back squats) are my favourites. BO rows, barbell presses, and BP make up the rest of my core workouts. I don't do so many pulls and pushdowns on the lat machine like I used to. I've also found it takes me longer to recover between workouts. Not sure if it's the age (40) or the moderately heavy compound movements. I tend to train every 3 to 4 days. I let my body tell me when it's good to go again.
ORIGINAL: pigeonwarrior sweet mate I love watching programs about aas. If it wasnt for the fact they can make you go bald I would do them now, the day I go bald though Ill be straight on them.
