Aspirating........... 09 March 2010 08:52 (permalink)
i've always aspirated, sometimes it has been a tad awkard, depending on the injection site.

I've recently had a course of Hep B jabs at work with the nurse there, and she never once aspirated, and thinking back i've never seen a nurse or doctor aspirate when giving me an injection.

Why is this??

i asked the nurse at the time, what if she caught a vein? to which she said their are no veins big enough in your shoulder to catch.

??????

any answers guys????

Think due to pin length it would pass through but wouldn't inject into one, plus their trained to know where to inject with little or no veins I was in a vein once blood when aspirated but that was in my thigh I have passed through veins before in my delt

Would it be necessary to aspirate with certain meds anyway? - I know with steroids, yes, because it's oil based.. but you can go IV with things like hgh or peptides so maybe its the same with those

Could it possibly be that they know its not necessary ?

i think it could be that they have done it so many times they cant be bothered aspirating it. Or they can just tell when its hit the msucle and it safe to inject

you  noticed they never used swabs either .... just goes to show that us '' roid head junkies, smackheads'' n what ever else we get called are actually cleaner and use better procedures than the nhs .

i made of point of that  to my ex gf's older sister who classed me as a druggie n though we all used dirty needles , luckily her bf is a paramedic and he said we probs do it cleaner than the nhs tbh

I can possibly understand them not swabbing, as there would no doubt be more reason to swab when doing injections at your own home as oppose to in a hospital, but the aspirating thing, I just don't get... it's not like they can know for sure if they're in a vein or not, although I have heard that  aspirating is not necessary and it only warrants a flick of the needle (like when getting rid of the air bubbles) to check if you are in a vein or not, as the blood would come through just by doing this. Don't know how true this is, and I still aspirate to make sure.
