Assistance please - beginner 3 day workout 21 January 2012 11:51 (permalink)
Guys,

I know you have probably loads of requests for these and for those of you that know me will know I'm far from being a beginner but I have been out of weight training for two years now and want to strip it right back and start again! I will be training 3 days a week at most around my shifts and due to this I dont have anymore than 1 to 1.5 hours at most or a session which needs to incorporate weights then a cardio session straight afterwards. Not ideal I know but have to make do!

I am thinking a full body compound workout 3 sets of 5? Any assistance would be greatful thanks

      ^^^^^^
      This

Stronglifts 5x5 is a great way of going back to basics.  As you're not a beginner then you can start with reasonable weights. It will leave you plenty of time for cardio in an hour and a half.

I've been doing this for 6 weeks and I've just started introducing cardio afterwards, I'm a masive fan of this routine.

See I have read through stronglifts and looked at it in alot of depth in fact I have even tried it and it just feels like I am hardly doing anything when I get to the gym.

Call me skeptical but 1 set of 5 deadlifts?

How long did you stick it out for? When you get to your maximum weights 1x5 deadlifts is plenty after 5x5 heavy squats and OHP.

I thought that too, 6 weeks in and I'm glad I did, bloody tough now but at least I have the technique for each lift well sorted.

Yes this is how the program is,i'm on it at the moment and the program says start light, use this to get your form spot on,i started very light and after 12 weeks i'm already past my personal bests, and ive yet to miss a final set/rep.just stick with it,it gets extreamly hard.
                  good luck.

Both very similar so take your pick.
