Does anyone listen to Audio books on their MP3 ?

If so who do you use for your downloads ?

Yes, but I listen to ones about Ancient Egypt, Alexandria, etc - never really listened to a novel.

I just buy them as CD's - I don't download them, so can't help there. I don't get as many now though, prefer to have a real book.

Yeah, I too prefer the idea of readin a book, but some occasions when i can listen to MP3 i cant really read, Work (night shifts mainly) Cardio, etc.
I love music but thought the idea of listening to a book might be a good alternative if out walkin or on the stationary  bike etc.

I listen to loads in the car on long-distances.  Did an 11-hour drive through France in the summer and it seemd like 5-minutes as the book I was listening to was brilliant.

I did get a copy of a Bill Bryson book, but to be honest I always have a backlog of podcasts to listen to.  If podcasts hadn't been invented then audio books would probably be a lot bigger than they are.

The quality of podcast out there now can be staggeringly good.

Podcasts are like discussions or abbreviated radio shows.  Anyone can do them, you get a lot of them affiliated with websites or the best bits of radio shows (with all the music stripped out).  Some are just guys sitting at home with a mic.

I use itunes for podcasts, it's great for finding an area of interest and then reading people's ratings and it will recommend similar types.
There are other programs out there but not used them.

It will regularly download them when they are released too.

What sort of interests do you have?  BBC, Guardian etc are strong in podcasts and can be downloaded directly from their sites.   If you like comedy, Adam and Joe is a good one.  Theres a few sports ones I've dabbled with but I primarily like science etc so listen to a lot on that subject.

Like the idea of some good comedy stuff, i really like Mark Radcliffe and Colin Marconi on radio2 so they may have something to look out for.

I will have a look at itunes and see if there stuff is compatible with my samsung MP3, really am a techo mong TBH.

I normally go for BBC podcasts when doing cardio.

They are a nice change to misic blasting away, as sometimes I'm sick of listening to the same songs.

However I do notice that my times/cals/dist are sometimes lower when listening to spoken word

A lot of audio books as I understand are often abridged and cost a lot if they are unabridged.

This may or not be a problem....

I have recently discovered some damn good free learn french podcasts! really helping me i have to say.

Link for these free french podcasts? Please?

I used to borrow audio books from the library to listen to on my way to work.
They were tapes, but then my car still has a tape player.

These days I listen to radio podcasts:
                                    The News Quiz
                                    The Now Show
                                    Mark Kermode Film Reviews
                                    Collings & Herrin Podcast
                                    Adam & Joe (occasionally)

I used to have a monthly subscription to Audible, £7.99 per month and that got you a full price audiobook of your choice - some months the book may be £8, some months I might have chosen a £25 one.
I always listen to them in the car, music can make me a bit racy when driving.
I also download them from the usual sites that dont necessarily charge....
