Audio Books on your phone.

Does anyone do them, probably not good in the gym but I might try it there, if you do then what are you listening to now ?

Alan Partridge, Nomad, - also listened to his autobiography - both good

I used to walk into a room full of people & wonder if they liked me..... Now I look around & wonder if I like them

On a similar topic, and my apologies for being an oldie on here and a technophobe of the lowest denomination....is a "podcast" a similar idea? Radio broadcasts to listen to via a mobile phone? Just interested as I'd like to get some info on how a podcast works. Are they downloaded or something? Thanks

Floydy mate, think of a podcast like subscribing to a newsletter.

Every time something new comes out from your 'subscription' of choice your ipod can automatically download it and you can play it at your leisure. Obviously there are one off purchases like books that you can play too that are also called podcasts.

I personally liked the Dexter audio books and have all but the last one. I wouldn't listen in the gym but they are great for long car rides. I don't listen to radio.

Same. I'm not a fan of Amazon in general as they're just too big and corporate so if I can buy something elsewhere I will. However, I can't find another audio book provider that comes close to audible in terms of selection and value.

It's only a big deal if you make it a big deal.

Thanks Brett, a good insight to this modern phenomenon they call Podcasting I'm guessing they can only be used on iphones/ipods, i.e. Apple devices? Sorry to be hopeless about all this!

Any smart phone, tablet etc with internet connection can access whatever is on the internet, obviously an app makes it easier and keeps them in one place be it iTunes or android whatever.

Podcast addict is a very good android app for podcasts, and easy to find podcasts even if you don't know what you're looking for

The only time i listen to anything lengthy is when I drive to Germany, I usually play podcasts or convert standup comedy into mp3. I did the ben goldacre (sp?) Bad science audio book, but after a while I just fancied a break for something with a different vibe. It was a bit too serious for a drive that is mostly motorways.

Audiobooks are great for commuting and listening to whilst you cook, eat, clean etc.

Listening to Robert Greene's Art of Seduction atm. Pretty good.
