Blood test help, UPDATE WITH RESULTS 29 January 2012 16:32 (permalink)
I am currently on 40 mg of citralopram, 500 mg of pregabalin and valium for anxiety and depression.

I have started to store alot of fat around my chest, and have been concerned around low test levels due to possible interactions with my medication.

So doctor is sending me for blood tests, thyroid, liver, serum testosterone, serum prolactin.

I have to arrange the time, so when is best in the day for this?

He also stated that i didn't need to be fasted.

(I am looking to get the lowest reading for test and highest for prolactin to hopefully get some further help)

Hopefully someone can advice me, thanks guys and girls.

Best to get bloods within two hours of waking, mate.

Hormone levels fluctuate during the day fairly significantly, as such, baseline readings are better obtainaed during the morning.

    Surprised this wasnt suggested, actually.

    Good luck.

wow 40mg is huge, I will just add that I gained 3.5 stones while taking escitrolpram 10mg. I am currently taking 5mg and to be honest I don't think it's doing much. Do they help you bud?

What makes you think you have low test levels?

Just tryin to control my symptoms, OCD, Agrophobia, Generalised Anxiety discorder.

Lots of weight gain, low mood, zero sex drive etc.

All side possible side effects of the medication but I just feel there may be something underlying as well.

And clinicly low test would also fit the bill, so to speak!

My understanding is the later in the day the lower the test result, so In all honesty I would want the lowest reading possible to hopefully get refered on to a specialist.

Serum Testosterone came back at 2.8.

And I'm seeing my GP on friday again.

I think this is very low?

Any tips/help on getting the GP to take it further?

          Thanks.

I'm female and I think I was told a result of 2 for me was low, so for a male that's even worse!!

I'm not able to interpret all the studies and clinical trials very well online.

Normal ranges seem to run for men from 2.8 - 10.0

Although at the moment no figure for free testosterone has been given to me.

I hope its low enough for treatment and not just at the bottom of the "normal" range.

Oh, perhaps mine was total testosterone - they were looking for reasons for the acne I was suffering from and think they said normal range for women was up to 5 or 6. I just remember them saying it wasn't a factor and it was low. Think it can be low for various reasons in men, and I'd guess it would depend upon the individual.
