Body Fat %

Hi guys, I've been training solid now for 3 weeks straight. I've not missed a day and made sure that my diet is pretty much spot on. Well I tell a little lie there. My diet between Monday and Friday is spot on. I am eating healthily taking in a lot of protein and hardly any carbs. Im taking a minumum of carbs in at all actually. I then allow myself to eat what I want at the weekend. Well to an extent. I don't go out and eat as much crap as possible but I eat well with perhaps a cheat meal or 2 over the week end. Anyway I took a measurement of my body fat 3 weeks ago and it was 24.5% ish. I cant say it's accurate because to many of the trainers tell me that there not brilliant. I then took a measurement on Monday (3 weeks on) and im exactly the same measuring at 24.6. However when i weighed myself I have actually gone up from 86 kilos to 87.5 in 3 weeks. My main goal is to actually keep the weight that I have but try to strip some bf. Should I be concerned that i've not lost any body fat at all in 3 weeks and my weight has gone up. I must also mention that even though i may have a KFC on a saturday for example I am doing cardio 3-4 times a week as I play semi pro at football.

How was the BF measured on each occasion? Was it done by the same person? BF measurements aren't generally all that accurate and I wouldn't expect a huge loss anyway after a few weeks.

They will be pretty useless for decent measurements. They measure the impedance of electric as it runs through the body so are not going to be particularly accurate. In my opinion, don't bother measuring your bodyfat and just look in the mirror, it will be more accurate.

People get too hung up on BF%, IMO. Strip and stand in front of a full length mirror. Jump up and down. If it wobbles, its fat. Simples. If you really want to check then weigh yourself 1-2x per week, and measure yourself with a simple tape-measure... take neck, upper arm, calf, thigh, chest and waist measurements. The keep a record. If your weight isnt dropping much, and the only measurement thats going down significantly is your waist nthen you can be pretty sure you're losing BF and retaining muscle. If your weight has gone UP then you're gaining (BF% is staying the same, so its mostly lean gains) and if that isnt your aim then cut back the diet (especially carbs) or increase the cardio

At >20% bodyfat your abs are a long way from coming through. At <15% you might get a sneak preview of them but you need to be in the low 10's or sub-10% BF to see a 6-pack.

Also the difference between now and 3 weeks ago is a gain of 0.8lbs of fat and 2.5lbs of FFM (fat free mass).

Thanks for your posts guys. I'm well aware my abs arent going to come through for some time yet. Can someone answer me this then. If I work hard in the gym, eat well and also play football plus alot of cardio throughout the week would that mean that I can keep my size of nearly 13 and a half stone but lower my bodyfat? Are there ways that can help you? One of my mates was mentioning something to me called Clen that could help me. Is this true or a myth? Regards,

if you want to stay the same weight while loosing fat then you will have to add as much weight in muscle as you loose in fat.

LMC Yes particularly if you're new to training - most of the best drug-free gains come in the first year or so, especially if your training and diet are good
