Hi PL, hard to give a BF figure really, because its really about the look on stage. physique is obviously as lean and hard as possible for everyone, where trained isnt quite as lean but actual BF % will depend on the person more than anything! forget about the numbers, and concentrate on how you look! when are you thinking about competing?

Hi I've got no time scale as I've got miles to go but would like to compete in a NPA comp or anything else that is drug free... I'm just looking into it as I was training for Powerlifting but for one reason and another wandering if it's possible to make the change..? I don't even know how long it would atake me to get to a reasonible standard.. Thanks in advance.

im sure its more than possible for you to make the change! how long it takes to achieve the required package is very person dependant, some have done it in as little as a year or two from no training at all, others have taken much longer. Im sorry, these answers dont really answer much at all! posting some photos of where you are at now would help people to give an opinion on how long and what classes would suit you, i dont know if thats possible? If you have a background in PLing then i would presume you already have some muscle there, it might just need refining and balancing out a little

i would imagine you'd have a very good muscle base to make the switch! As Daz says, best to see pics so we can see if you'll be physique or body fitness/ trained or toned etc. The drug free feds would be NPA or BNBF Im not sure myself if theres any weight restriction on figure, kitty or flick will be able to tell you that?

The only fed that I know of that has a weight restriction on figure is NAC. Nabba toned and trained figure has no wt limit. The BNBF and the NPA don't have weight limits either. Bit hard to state a BF% as I think the look will depend on how much muscle you carry. I don't think for figure a BF% is as crucial as it would be for physique.

I'm poss be a good example here? Trained heavy with no focus for 10 years, got married, got fat, decided to compete and dropped 3+stone of fat in 7 months to reveal my hard earned muscle that no-one knew was hiding there! xx

Agree with all posts. It's definately how you look on that stage. you don't get asked what body fat you are! It all depends on your height too? If you want to compete then good luck to you!! Enjoy your journey!

There are a few ex-powerlifters who have made great transitions to bodybuilding. Vicky McCann powerlifts as now does Annie Ottey. Vicky Bradley (last year's Miss Figure winner at BNBF Finals is a Powerlifter taking a break from it to compete. Helen Stack used to Powerlift and now she's a natural pro. The U55 weight limit is with regards to do NPA Lightweight Physique. I too struggle to make U55kgs (am normally about 56-57) so I'd either do Heavyweight (meh) or Figure :-)

Annie Ottey is a weightlifter rather than powerlifter

You don't have to be under 55kg to compete in toned.
