Bodyfitness magazine
10 October 2009 09:30
( permalink)
The Editor of BodyFitness magazine has decided not to feature any women in the magazine going forward. As someone who subscribed to this magazine because it did some great features on females including top UK competitors I feel I've been cheated out of what I spent my money on. My subscription is due for renewal in January and I certainly won't be doing so. In the last edition there is a letter of support from a Al McLeod from Glasgow for the editor making this decision because he feels "we bodybuilders need as much info on training and nutrition as possible so those devoted to women were, robbing us of precious pages" Well Mr McLeod (and Mr Editor), are us women not bodybuilders too? Do we not deserve some space? What are your views? I intend to send all replies of support to the Editor so please sign your post with your first name/a nickname and town.

Sorry, are you saying that from now on they will feature no articles on females?

kitty In the last edition there is a letter of support from A Knuckldragger from Glasgow for the editor making this decision because he feels "we bodybuilders need as much info on training and nutrition as possible so those devoted to women were, robbing us of precious pages" Presumable this is a commercial decision, there is not enough interest in womens bb to make it worthwhile including them in the mag? Dont worry kitty, in a while they'll probably have a 'get your tits out for the lads who's your favourite lapdancer'section to keep the boys entertained. The male readers will be hugely relieved to see women back in their proper place Depressing isnt it

I will speak to Giles about this when I see him next weekend. I'll get his position on it; maybe he'll even post himself.

I've already contacted Giles about it, he just told me to contact the editor. I've posted this on other forums and will send all comments to the editor myself

We used to buy every issue of Bodyfitness that was stocked by our local paper shop as I especially liked the female section and even more so when they started featuring not only the American fitness and figure girls but also some amazing in depth interviews by Giles of some of the UK's top competitors. I actually thought it was the way forward and was impressed with the way the magazine appeared to be catering for a real gap in the market....apparently not. Well the Olympic Gym no longer has Bodyfitness in their magazine rack!!! Very disapointed in the editorial decision. I am very glad we never subscribed!!!

How stupid......Cant believe the thing that makes this magazine more balanced than all other BB and fitness mags out there they are stopping. Was there not enough " hardcore" articles in there to keep the boys happy??Just picked up a copy...hmmm 26 pages on female bodybuilders out of 210 pages...lol....The market is awash with same same magazines and this was a breath of fresh air in a predictable market.Ive spent 10 years reading Flex and Muscle and Fitness and abandoned them for Bodyfitness.Well im only glad i never subscribed.

It's always the same..Women get a raw deal unless you fight for your rights and make yourselves heard.. I have had this sort of thing for over 20years and it's no different now...Being the only female amongst 350 men ,mind you there are another two now..one I trained up .And this is in Transport driving Lorries the BIG ONES too!!!! Sometimes you think "WHY BOTHER".. For Kitty it's like a punch in the face..she's worked so hard over the years and now she needs recognition she gets a slap in the face by this magazine. I think Women should set up a magazine!!!!! XXX

they built up to this though, go back through the last few letters pages and they kept printing letters complaining about the womens section.

i just dont see what people would complain about the femail parts of the magazine. Do they think they are going to drop them and instead include more male articles? the magazine will just have less pages. what a stupid, stupid decision. imagine having one thing that sets you apart from the competition, and then stopping doing it. womens bodybuilding has just as much of a place as mens does. there is room, and demand for information on both.

Any outcome with this? I notice the latest issue has just come out, but I didn't buy it to look into what's happened with it...

*poke* kitty? They've just been emailing me recently (bulk distributions) and mentioned wanting transformation stories. I'd loved to be featured but not if this story didn't have a happy ending? Altho I will let them know 'what they could've won'! xx
