Breakfast dilemma! 18 December 2011 19:46 (permalink)
Ok, so breakfast, the most important meal of the day!

I dont have any really. On a week day i wake up at 5am and i have to be at work at 6am, i have to take a shower, pack my bag de-ice my car this time of year and drive half hour to work.

As you can see, breakfast isnt really a option, i cant get up any earlier because i cant open my eyes as it is haha.

So, id ideally like something on the go!
It needs to be cheap and healthy. I have been thinking of making my own breakfast bars?

Any ideas?

Cheers

what i have every morning - 150ml of water, 150ml of milk, 2 scoops of whey and two big scoops of ground oats.  shake and neck lol, sorted and all within 2-3 mins including washing out the shaker (even better if you can leave for the missus to wash )

Almost identical, but I use 400ml 1% milk no water and add 50g honey as well as the oats.

You need your protein in a morning as your body will need some.

            Make a shake with oats.

i usually have 200ml of liquid egg whites, i drink those out of the carton and i'll follow that with 150ml kettle water, straight down...

                  just kidding,

150m kettle water poured onto some oats, a tablespoon of honey and all mixed up, then 150ml milk, 2 mins in the micro, add another 100ml of cold milk if im in a rush and then i'll shovel that in and take a banana for the road.... all in all its all over in just under 5 minutes....

just like me in the bedroom actually.

quicker options are throw the lot in  a blender with 300ml of milk, blend and drink.

A serving is different for everyone, I'd suggest you start with 1/3 cup.

I also suggest you try something for 2 weeks then analyse it - aiming to improve every week.

You're right about not eating the same things all the time - our bodies need a wide variety so eat lots of different coloured veges and fruit and rotate all different proteins - turkey, chicken, lean meat, fish, egg whites, cottage cheese etc.

Make sure you're getting some good fats too in there.

Another easy breakfast is natural yoghurt with protein powder mixed through.

Or soak oats overnight in water, with cinnamon and grated apple or berries and protein powder and eat as you get ready to leave.

                      Good luck!

a banana, skimmed milk with scoop of whey, some nuts, youghurt; all quck and easy.

Or at begining of week get a small loaf of healthy bread and make it all into ham and cheese sandwiches and put em all back in bag, then in mornings just stick them in a toasty bag.

I always make a shake the night before and drink it on the way to the station. Keeps for 12-13 hours no problem in the fridge.

                          Oats
                          Banana
                          Milk
                          Casein & Whey

I find that more banana than oats results in a better mixture?

Mix your oats with milk and leave them overnight in the fridge.
I eat them cold in the morning, beautiful and creamy
You can also mix your oats with a shake the night before, Cookies and Cream Myofusion is nice.

My Breakfast every morning is half cup of milk. half a cup of oats, 1 banana, big scoop of peanut butter, drop of honey, 2 eggs, 2 scoops of PhD synergy iso-7. Chuck it all in the blender and add water until you get the consistency you want.
                              Takes all of 4 minutes.

If you really don't even have time to do that then simply chuck some oats in with your protein shake and have a small handful of almonds. (takes less then a minute).

Just take ideas from some of the great suggestions people have posted and come up with something that works for you...

I take a breakfast shake to work with me.  I have a blender that blends in the cup that youre using, so I keep the blender at work and take a cup in each morning.

                                I generally have:

                                Unflavoured whey
                                Fresh fruit juice
                                Milk
                                Strawberries
                                Blueberries
                                Mango

                                Yum!

a great brekky if training a few hours later is 50g whey protein isolate with 200ml skimmed milk, tiny bit of choc flavoring (carob or nesquick) over 50g oates with 20g coco pops.  totals about 550 -600kc, 55g protein, 60g carbs and something like 3g fat.  perfect for first meal and enough energy to lift heavy.

non training days, 1 x slice wholemeal bread (62% w.meal flour) with wither 300g scrambled egg whites or 4 poached eggs.  whites are easier to do in a hurry if you buy bottles (from myprotein.com) and cook in microwave.  300g egg whites on toast is about 150kc 35g protein, 18g carbs .8g fat.  4 poached eggs about 440kc 30g protein, 18g carbs, 28g fat.

A shake with a load of stuff to suit your body type/ goals is best i think.
Very quick to make, you can make the 'recipe' and adjust to your taste and add/ takeaway carbs/fats/protein to how you need it and it is quick and easy to drink and can be easily taken on the road ready to go to work!
If made the night before then all you have to do is 'grab n go'! shakes keep pretty well as long as they are kept in the fridge and last maybe 4-6 hours out of the fridge but i wouldnt leave it any longer than that out the fridge- nothing worse than a gone off shake!
                                        x
