Bulk or reduce bf
24 January 2012 22:59
( permalink)
Hi, been training for just over a year. I'm 23, 5"11 and 182 pounds. Found progress pretty slow to be honest. I've been at least 3 times a week for the last year, although admittedly only really got a decent routine and workout sorted after 3-4 months. Trial and error really. Just wondering opinions to help me progress really. Can provide a couple of pics of minor progress so far, if they'd help. Cheers!

Basically day 1 would be chest... so flat bench of only 70kg usually 3x10 (warming up of lower weights), dumbell press 3x10, incline on 50kg of again, 3x10. 3x10 on 40kg on 'pec deck'. Pretty much it, i think. Legs and abs are on the same day... similar to before with 3x10 on squats, calf raises, leg press and a couple of others i'm not sure how to describe.... day 3 is shoulder press 3x10 with 3x10 on seated lat pull down, 3x10 hammer curl seated, 1x10 on 10kg dumbell curl, then 2x8 on 15kg and 3x6 on 20.... then 20 til failure, 15 til failure and 10 til failure.... various shoulder workouts on 3x10 also, but again, not entirely sure what exercise is called.... hit me with the advice/criticism... thanks

How come you're not training your back at all?

Sorry, i am. I wrote that a little to hastily. There's not a great deal to it really... deadlifts and lat pull downs... but other than that, not a great deal. Do you think this is a large drawback to my routine and halting any potential 'real' progress? I've literally tried to piece things together but as you can see above, the inexperience is showing.

Yeah it's not a great routine really. If I was you I'd simplify it and stick to the basics. A push/pull/legs routine or a full body routine. If you are one of the countless natural trainers who has been dissatisfied with their results from traditional bodybuilding type split routines, then you are an ideal candidate for full body. However I would also look at your diet, because if you're not gaining your diet is most likely the culprit.

Yeah, i kinda suspected that and i appreciate your time in responding to my posts mate. I think i'll try the whole 'push/pull/legs etc' and see how i get on. I've questioned my diet previously. It's nothing too high, i estimate it at about 2,400. It's all good stuff too. I did try a higher calories diet, mainly supplemented by weight gain, which to it's credit worked... however not in the most desirable way... it seemed just to increase bodyfat. And considering amongst my routine, there's plenty of cardio, with me playing football twice a week and mma once a week.... it's a little frustrating. It's all been natural thus far, but i have to say, i'm open minded overall.
