Bulking Without Being Sore ?
11 March 2010 06:57
( permalink)
Heres an unusual one for ya.. I am training to bulk which means my plan includes lots of heavy weights with low reps, mostly 3 sets of 8, or 4 sets of 6. I am lifting my absolute maximum but I am never sore. The only thing which hurts like fuk is my left nipple. Where am I going wrong?

3 sets of 8 is't low reps and consequently not a heavy weight. As to not being sore I can only assume that you are working within yourself and therefore not doing enough. Crank it up a little

Do you suggest going for the 4x6 method?

I wouldn't go over sets of three to be honest. But as you seem to be a high reps person, start with sets of five, then move tho threes, then doubles, then singles. Adjusting the weight accordingly

LOL at only left nipple hurting. How long have you been training for and how frequently do you hit each body part? I find I rarely get DOM's anymore. Only time I do is if I perform a different exercise or hit each body part less frequently ie every 7 days or more. As long as your upping yours lifs on a fairly regular basis I wouldn't worry about not feeling sore. Its not necessarily an inicator of growth.

Agree with Pete. You got four exercises for chest 4*(3*8) = 96 reps, which is way to much if you are lifting 'truly' heavy.

the selection and amount of exercises suggest there is very little effort put into any of it. don`t wish to offend you, but thats how it looks.

I will post my diet up in the next few days. This plan was given to me by a bodybuilding profesional and checked with one of the local PTs in the gym. If you think this is no good then please make a suggetion as to some improvments.

DinoSaw [...]heavy weights with low reps[...] Think this is what everyone is on about, not that the routine is rubbish. You said you are lifting heavy with low reps when you are not :)

DinoSaw The only thing which hurts like fuk is my left nipple. LOL can't explain the nipple thing! To answer though you don't need to feel sore after a workout as long as your making gains...progressive overload is what you should be aiming for while having a calorie surplus when trying to bulk

If your not gaing any size increase the calories.

Use progression, not pain, as an indication of improvement. DOMS is not a sign of hypertrophy. If you are avoiding DOMS but progressing I would say this is a good thing as you can in some cases up the frequency. sel
