CAN'T EFFING GO TO SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! ARRRRRRRGH!!
13 February 2010 18:09
( permalink)
Just can’t bloody sleep at all! I’ve just got back to the gym from a 2 week break, which I took because I was having this trouble of sleeping due to over training. I slept quite well in the first few days. But since, it has gone back to normal. I struggle to go to sleep, and when I do, I seem to be always waking up at the same time of night! (or morning!). I don’t know what else could be causing this. Maybe my diet? Well, I do eat pretty much the same foods nearly everyday. Yes I know that’s not advisable, but my food options are pretty limited. I can’t think of anything else apart from diet and overtrainng (which I took a break from anyway.) I train intensely, frankly I can’t think of anyone in my gym that trains as hard as I do!! And I’m not trying to sound arrogant. I’m pretty sure it got something to do with my CNS. But as I have already said, I did take a break. So what else can I do?? I don’t want to keep relying on sleeping pills or supplements like ZMA all the time. I don’t take any caffeine or anything. I train around 4 to 5. Although I will probably train in the mornings from now on. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. :( It’s really pissing me off.

Perhaps it's time you saw a doctor about it then?

Have you got a lot on your mind at the mo? There are a few tricks which might help a little, but none of these are dealing with the cause of the problem.

I find myself still awake at around 2 or 3 oclock, even though I went to bed around 12-12.30. And even when I manage to doze off, I always seem to be waking up at around 5.50. After that I can't go back to sleep. So in total I'm only getting few hours asleep! I don't think I've had a deep sleep in 3 or 4 nights now.

R's pointers above are good. I think I directed you to a blog post I wrote that included notes on sleep hygiene before. Of course as above not everybody needs the same amount of sleep, how are you feeling head and body wise? Training in the morning may well help but if it continues to be a problem and it is a problem for you, then you might want to get some advice from a doctor. They won;t generally refer to a sleep clinic unless you pus though - I'm talking about the UK here. I don't know where you are.

I had this once in my life, for about 2 weeks, it was horrible. One night i actually didnt sleep, then on to work. I tried stretching before bed (supposed to signal to the body its winding down), relaxing bathes, no caffine, soothing music, but nothing worked. I didnt feel stressed at the time, but when i look back i think it was that. I went to see the doc, who i had to beg to give me sleeping pills. In the end he gave me tamazipan (sp), this helped me nod off, but within an hour or so i was wide awake again. As much as this isnt great advice, I felt so down about it I went out and got absolutely smashed down the pub. I collapsed when i got home and woke up 8 hours ish later. Never had the problem again. I tried allsorts in that 2 week period but nothing helped me. Going to work like a zombie is the absolute worst aswell.

(took my dinner at around 3, before that i only took a shake, 2 bread slices, 50g of almonds and a protien bar) I'm going to start training in the morning. I got a doctor appointment next week as well. Im in the UK.

I've been having bad sleeping problems which is why I started the gym thinking it would help more. And it has. It could be down to something simple too like having enough to drink during the day which im sure was another problem I had. And like James said above it can be stress and your mind playing a big part of it, i'd go to the doc's if it continues.

still same old problem. I've honestly just had about enough!! I'm thinking of trying ZMA, does it definitley help you get sleep? Does it have any sideeffects? I'm thinking of get it from Boditronics, is it any good? Any supplements out there that help you with stress? Because my libido is not great now, too!!

I have been an insomniac / irregular sleeper all my life (well, diagnosed at 3yrs anyway) My sleep is very diverse - sometimes I can sleep deeply for long long time but for most part my sleep is eithr very broken or non existent. Oftentimes my average sleep over a month can be as little as an hour per 24. I also suffer from sleep paralysis which is just bloody mental! Form me, none of this is an issue. I've been dealing with this for 30+ years so my body is ok with it, I'm adjusted. No problems with gains or any other physical issues. I can give some advice though: Don't lie in bed worrying about it. If you can't sleep chill about it. Get a night light (the kiddie type), get a book or magazine and when you wake just relax and read. You may well fall back to sleep or you may not, but the stress and annoyance it causes will drive you crazy of you let it. In the meantime youi can change your lifestyle patterns and see if you can change other things - eventually it'll probably be cool so there's no point making it a point of stress in your life.

Have you been able to burn body fat effectivley, though? What about libido???! Can you still get it back naturaly even though you're not sleeping?!
