Is anyone gonig to this? One of my mates is competing.

He weighs around 90kg and is an olly lifter (came 2nd in the GB under 90kg).

What do you reckon would win a <90kg deadlift?

His deadlift is'nt great.I  reckon his 205kg max won't go very far.

    Depends who turns up.

I should imagine 250 would place well,  270+ very well.

            Hey guys,

Thought I would clear the air and clear a few points up for you.

I run a Crossfit training program.  There is a huge variety in the capabilities of my members.  We train a mix of power lifting, oly lifting, sandbag work, sledgehammers tyres, kettlebells etc.  Chet over at Funckey runs a forum that allows people that train in any arena to come together and log stuff, highlight interesting material, seminars, training styles and such like.

We both love strongman type stuff and while watching a comp in Cornwall said lets run one for guys that we know and that are from associated forums.  For this event we wanted guys that had never done specific strongman type training to be able to get together and throw heavy **** around but have it in a setting that they are unfamiliar with and that brings a new challenge for them.  Having competing strongmen at this invitational would have just gone against everything that we wanted to achieve.

I need to just say at this point that I am by no means trying to set up  a rivalry of competitions.  I have actually spoken with Simon and another guy when training at Fitness First at Meadway about coming down and training with you guys for the sub 90kg category and i was actually going to ask Simon if we could use the farmers handles he was telling me about.  I didn't see him in the build up so had to borrow from someone else.

I was talking just yesterday with Chet about running strongman type workshops and using the basement gym guys as guests speakers and/or demostrating best technique on some of the more challenging strongman disciplines.

I hope this explains things clearly.  I have great respect for strongman training and I feel we can all learn alot from the programming and nutrition.

Stidge - were you there at the weekend?  If not the Deadlift hold started at 120kg!

Can't remember who said a comp for the boys then but we had a girl competing too in the <75kg.  She did really well actually just struggled a bit with the 60m, 45kg slosh keg carry.  It was raining though
