Can Training make your blood pressure go up 29 September 2009 10:33 (permalink)
Hi all, I have began weight training to improve my body shape,I also take my dog for long walks so that I burn calories..
I am now up to35/40 kilo Bench press and use Db, between 7/10/14/ kilos for various body parts. ie pressing, decline pressing flys, shoulders etc.......
I had to go to the doctors for routine visits to be told my blood pressure had gone up slightly......
I thought training and losing weight would not do this...Can anyone help?#Cheers.

Heavy resistance training will increase bp quite dramatically during actual workload. This is normal. Standard training/cardio in itself should not increase your resting bp however.

BP readings are never identical and will vary from time to time due to a multitude of factors such as stimulant intake (coffee etc), workload stresses, rushing around, or simply white coat syndrome.

You need regular checks to establish a pattern before a) becoming concerned, and b) looking to treat if necessary.

Every time i went docs and checked that, mine would be through the roof, mainly because i would panic and get anxious. Its quite normal. I was worried still though so I got one of them home testers, very good. Was about £50 i think and i started checking it more often to see if it was in the normal range in the morning (when you should check) and it was. I'd advise you get one.
