Proves that you have trained well and had good results from it! Shes based in nottingham. The new leaf kit is good but it does have a couple of drawbacks, Mainly the time it takes to calibrate ant the size and weight of the machine! she is looking at a different system this week, cant remember the make, but its a much smaller piece of kit with a shorter calibration time. Yea the calibration time is annoying especially if you have to move it all the time. There is the option of getting the tripod as opposed to the trolley whihc will help transportation a lot. I'd be keen to what your partner thinks of a different system. Also if its not too cheeky who does she target for most of her work? i.e is it pt clients on a 1:1 basis or in with clubs etc?

its not her main business, so it takes a back seat and gets fitted in as and when so she doesnt do much marketing of it so there is little targeting! its mainly personal clients, through recommendation/ contacts and a few from the gym where she teaches classes

dazc yungdest81 ^ Forgot to add, an intense 10 mins ! then it will do little for fat burning, and mainly just be working your cv fitness. when it comes to cardio working harder doesnt=more fat burnt I don't need to burn fat, I was just saying what I do at the end of a workout. I do HIIT if I want to lose fat.

And HIIT is not the most effective way of burning fat. as i said earlier more intense cardio does not equal more fat burning

To be honest I think alot of info people spout off can get too scientific, complicated and hard to understand for your average trainer. At the end of the day, do cardio after weights or on its own day, do an amount you can handle, and try to up it slowly. All this timing of this, timing of that just confuses people. No doubt all you say is backed up by scientific reports, but sometimes you can just get too bogged down in reading all this stuff. Train and enjoy it.

whats scientific?? SSCV cardio is best for fat burning and base conditioning, HIIT is more suited to cv fitness and recovery rates! your right, there is no need to overcomplicate things, but if something is said that isnt 100% correct surely it needs pointing out?

Don't get me wrong I agree with you. And I don't happen to think its complicated, but some people do. People read all these things about keeping the heart rate at xbpm for this and xbpm for that, when I think its easier to just dumb it down. I just think, do your weights, do some cardio variations, eat well, happy days.

i personally find HIIT really helps me burn fat and keep the fat down, whereas SSCV does but it takes a lot longer. at the end of the day we are all different, SSCV is one persons fav, HIIT is another.

I do a weights session then have a whey shake with dextrose in and then do a 4 mile run on the treadmil which takes about 35 mins, running at around 6.5 to 7 miles per hour. Is this too intense a cardio session to burn fat? Is having the whey & dextrose after the weights OK or will I just be burning that off insead of fat?

Is that a fast pace ? I'm not even sure. Logic would say you're only burning the fuel you just drank. Daz will know more. Everyone is different though. Personally I'd do it straight after without any carb/protein. Obviously makes it harder on the energy side of things though. Again personally I would never do that much after weights, I'd give it its own day. The reason for me is that I want to get the nutrition in as soon as I can. Anabolic rather than catabolic. I figure the longer you leave it the worse it will be for the muscles you just worked doing the weights session.

mikejm- Thats just under a nine minute mile pace which is reasonably quick, but the intensity is down to the individual as it depends on how fit they are! gradient will also have a big impact. A good very general rough guide is wether you can hold a normalish conversation or not, if you struggle to get words out then its a bit too intense for your fitness levels where fat lss is concerned if your doing the cardio to burn fat/avoid fat gain, then as yungdest said, save the whey and dext for after you have done the cardio. there wont be any muscle loss in the 35-40 minutes on the treadmill if your going steady and the rest of your diet is decent.

Thanks daz, good to know there won't be any muscle loss. Will probably have to slow the cardio down anyway if I don't have the shake as the dextrose gives me the energy to go that pace. How long after the cardio should I have the protein shake, immediately after?
