Cardio only and rest days nutrition 05 November 2009 14:56 (permalink)
Do you eat the same on these days as on resistance training days?

On cardio only days i eat a little lower cals from carbs and fat but still eat the majority of cals ar breakfast, pre and post workout but would it be better to spread the cals out evenly through the day?

Is a pwo shake needed if doing medium intensity cardio for 30 mins?

How would a restday mealplan differ?

Cheers

food intake should remain pretty much the same.. you need the nutrients for growth and recovery

total daily intake is more important than meal timing and frequency.. do whatever works for you

you could have a shake after cardio.. or you could just time it so you have a solid meal after cardio. Thats what i normally do

I usually have a pwo shake and a solid meal 20mins later aswell. My pwo shake contains dextrose, is that needed or does it not matter?

I was thinking it would still be better to get most cals in in the first half of a rest day and around cardio? Isnt that when the body will need them most?
        Cheers for reply mate

a lot depends on what part of your training cycle you are - but in general terms the only difference I would see would be the absence of a post workout shake.

Read that already mate, good write up very helpful. Although you dont really go into detail about fats. You just say they are consumed with meats ect.

Still abit confused about where to put my fats, but i normally have most at breakfast, pre workout and in my last meal.

Anyway, I assumed a pwo shake would still be good after a medium intensity cardio workout as the body will still be begging for food as it would be after resistance exercise?

But i asked if its needed because i havnt a clue really

i didnt go into detail about fats because theer is no need to!

If you are bulking and doing cardio intense enough to demand a pwo shake - then you are doing way to intense cardio.

A full on weights workout causes muscle damage - proper damage - which is repaired and then the body responds to the stress by building back stronger - if your cardio is that intense thats some cardio; and on a par with elite level training - and inappropriate for the bulking phase.

                  :)

So it isnt needed and a regular meal afterwards will be fine?
