Competing with a hernia? 07 April 2011 18:43 (permalink)
Hi all

I've got an epigastric hernia (about 1cm above my navel, between my rectus abdominis). I had one last year, had it operated on and....now I have another. Anyway that's by the by.

My question/concern is, will I get marked down for it in figure comps? It doesn't exactly bulge out horrendously but it is visible and obviously if it's visible now, it will be even more so when I'm 12-weeks leaner, and holding an ab-and-thigh pose.

There's not a lot I can do about it....not between now and my comp anyway...but can anyone tell me whether the judges will mark me down for it?

hard to know really, but its a pretty common sight. if its really bad then i suppose it could be used to separate you from someone it was very close with.

to be honest though, i wouldnt worry too much about it.  like you say, nothing you can do about it now, so just focus on being the best you can be on stage, and get it sorted in off season

Thanks Daz, yep you're right bugger all I can do about it now - interesting to know it's pretty common though...that makes me feel a bit better about it.

Next time I'll get them to put the mesh in when they operate!
