Confused - Cutting or Bulking 14 January 2012 10:41 (permalink)
Hello guys, basically I want to know whether I should be cutting or bulking. I know it sounds stupid, but after doing a lot of reading I'm slightly confused. I have recently lost a lot of weight but also a lot of lean muscle mass :/

I'm currently: 19 years old, 5'10'' and my weight is around 80kg at the minute.

The supplements I have available and am looking to incorporate in my diet plan are: Creatine, Whey Protein and Multi-Vitamin tablets.

My current training schedule is this: 3x a week, I do 4 pyramid sets every exercise, with the weight increasing slightly each set and the number of reps going from at 12,10,8,6.

Day 1: Chest & Triceps
11mins treadmill (HIIT), 15mins Cross Trainer (HIIT).
Chest Press (Machine), Chest Fly (Machine), Triceps Extensions, Press-Ups, Incline Sit-Ups.
Day 2: Back & Biceps
11mins treadmill (HIIT), 15mins Cross Trainer (HIIT).
Lat Pull Downs (Machine), Low Row (Machine), Biceps Curls (Dumbbells), Shrugs, Incline Sit-Ups.
Day 3: Shoulders & Legs
11mins treadmill (HIIT), 15mins Cross Trainer (HIIT).
Leg Press, Leg CUrls, Leg Extensions, Shoulder Press (Machine), Upright Rows (Cable)

Basically my goals are to decrease body fat and grow some lean muscle. If I cut will I be able to increase muscle mass or will it just maintain my current muscle mass?and if I bulked would it increase my body fat?

I'd appreciate any advice on my diet, training and what to do next, thanks a lot! :)

You pretty much answered your own question. Yes it will be hard to 'cut' and add substantial lean body mass and yes it will be hard to 'bulk' without adding a small amount of fat. Depending on your current body fat % decide whether to just cut first then bulk or jump straight into a bulk.

      You want to recomp.

Unless you are a complete newbie to training, this will be hard to achieve. As above, choose one goal and stick to it for a while.

Thank you for the responses :) after reading what you've said I've decided to cut first. Could you guys recommend an effective training program and diet for me? Also would I be able to take Creatine whilst cutting?

          Thanks
