Contact Lenses

Hey all I'm struggling a bit with my contact lenses, if I get caught with a shot my lense pops out and I end up fighting the rest of the session blind. It's particularly frustrating. Any (sensible) tips to try to stop ths happening? Nice one

Is there any risk of the lense damaging your eyeball? Guess you could wear glasses !

na dont think so! lenses are really soft there is a risk that they could go behind your eye, but that never happened to me YET!! just have to get behind and scoop them out

I've tried that not getting hit lark, but ppl's fists are just attracted to my face!lol I would try not wearing them but I wouldn't be able to see a damn thing. I was kickboxing last night and got caught and out popped the lense, and against a decent fighter it makes it really difficult. In the cage it's not as bad cos I can just close the distance and take it to the ground. But in stand up it's a bad situation to be in. Nah no chance of the lense damaging the eye. I've had a lense shoot round the back of the eye, but it was easy enough to retrieve. Your more at risk if the lense pops out and you put it back in without cleaning it first.

Lotek I have been contemplating laser surgery Wouldnt laser eye surgery put you out of sparring for a really long time though? I havent had a lense out yet when i've been hit, but they are good for when you get poked in the eye. A lad poked me in the eye by accident whilst grappling and took the lense straight out with no pain at all. Do you wear soft lenses?

Not really sure about that to be honest mate, not too clued up on the laser surgery. I think there are things like no sunbathing for six months and things like that but not sure about impact things?? I wear the lenses you look after for a month and then dispose of. Not the daily ones.

Regarding the laser surgery they i've gotten it done (used to have contacts and had this same problem) and yeah they say 6 months before any real contact sports - you will feel fine after a week though its hard to keep to!

I was back sparring a few months after I had LASIK with no problems. For those of you who compete I'd give it a fair bit longer than that before fighting though PRK is meant to be the favoured method of eye surgery for people who are into contact sports, but it wasn't suitable for my eyes or something so I had LASIK. This was about 6 or 7 years ago and I've had no problems so far related to getting hit in the eye region

I had the one where they make a flap and then fold it back over. Can't remember which its called now. Got mine done when I was 20 (29 now) and had no problems. Well apart from the actual proceedure which is probably the worst experience ever. It doesnt hurt but all that **** going on with your eye just feels wrong. Oh and it felt like someone was poking me in the eye for a week after. Don't think thats usual though. Well worth it though. I worked it out that after 7-8 years id be into saving money with what it would have cost me by still having contacts/glasses. Think it's alot cheaper now though so you'd probs get the cost back afew years early. I always hated going to a party and having gritty eyes because I had them in all day. Used to get drunk and fall alseep with them in then next morning I had to peel them off my eye and there was all this white spunky stuff in my eye. Welll I hope it wasn't actual spunk! but yeah wasn't pleasant. Dont miss them things that's for sure!
