Wandering if any of you guys can recommend a little routine I can do of a night to strenghten the core. There are lots of videos and stuff on the net, but would like to know what you have tried as a starter and worked for you?

If your just into weight lifting then it may be enough to squat, deadlift, OHP and some decent abb work. However others may need more movements to train the 'core'. Rotational stuff, static work etc.

Stercus accidit Are you saying squats actually strenghten the core? ding ding ding, what do we have for him johnny? Just kidding:) Yes in some fairly recent studies squats have been shown to trump every single specific core exercise on core activation. As mentioned above twisting is beneficial too, but as a rule if you are heavy squatting (and deadlifting) your core will have more than adequate strength. sel

The above are pretty good core exercises (apart from rotational DL and hyperextensions). You need to build it up though. I would say a balanced routine consisting of the basics (Squat/DL/Bench/Rows etc...) with correct technique (bracing the core). And progress through to the other exercises (as an example); Planks - 1 Leg / 1 Arm Planks - Stability Ball rollout - ab wheel rollout - med ball rollout Side Plank - DB Suitcase Deadlift - Barbell Suitcase Deadlift Standing Pallof Press - Iso Pallof Press - variations of kneeling / split stance / 1 leg They all contribute to working the core in a number of ways. Simply squatting is not enough. Good, specific and correctly done core exercises will get you stronger all over, prevent injuries and add size.
