Cut First or go with it? Advice? 09 March 2010 01:12 (permalink)
Hi People. Used to come on the site a few years back when I used to train as a teen and thought now is the time to come back! I have let go and put a fair bit of weight on.

I am 5,10/11 and currently weigh 199lb. I am big built and have a solid frame naturally without working out. I find it very easy to put weight on and also rather easy to drop the weight that I pick up if I just eat healthy again. If I eat crap for a week I really see it.

I have just started the gym again and am in a bit of a situation as to what direction to go. I don't know whether to cut first or just go with a lean bulk. I wish I didn't have as much fat on me, but I hold it fine, I just look big built (which I am) Just a little rounder in the face and a little out of shape in places...

I suppose I am about 20%bf or maybe a tiny bit over. I want to go in with a clean bulk and think I will fill it ok. Due to fat dropping when eating healthy. But wanted some opinions.

I Usually eat 2000 Cals a day and don't feel tired. Any more than this and I put weight on. So any guidelines on dietry amounts for either option any of you advise would be good, so I can finally work out my diet etc and plan.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Any Ideas Guys?

Really want to get things set out asap.

Also would say about 2200/300 is my maintenance intake if eaten properly and healthy.

IMO cut whilst maintaining the muscle, then clean bulk all the way. Unfortunately i made the mistake of bulking from being a similar body fat percentage to you, it was frustrating as i was putting all this effort in and getting good gains, both strength and mass yet i still looked crap in the mirror. Cutting now, then a lean bulk all the way.

agreed with cutting mad, theres nothing more annoyuing than putting a good bit of muscle of and not being able to see but just looking fatter.

cut first then bulk, it will also be easier to asses your diet aswell then as it will be easier to tell if your over eating and putting fat back on.

Ok guys thanks for the input.

Tbh I dont mind looking a litter fatter, As long as there is mass beneath it. Im not looking to be ultra ripped or things at the moment, Just want to get my size back and maybe start worrying about being lean after the summer. Not doing this as a summer thing etc.

If I am to go with the cut, Whats the best way do you think, How many cals overall including exercise should I be looking at reducing pd, 800? Whilst eating clean?

If I do cut, tbh it wont be for too long, as mentioned above the reason....

Thanks again for the input guys!
