Cutting Diet Critique 26 October 2009 16:21 (permalink)
Hi Chaps & Chapesses

Thought I would post my cutting diet for reveiw and critique (James, your opinions would be greatly appreciated obviously!)

Me = 31 years young, 6ft & 14st 11lb. BF% ? ( I would guess at 15%. Top 2 ab's just visible). Figure I have a slowish metabolism as I find it easier to gain weight than lose it!

6:15am - 20g Whey, 3g Creatine, 3g Beta-Alanine, 3g Taurine, 3g AAKG, 3g AEE
6:30am - Train (45mins weights, 30mins Cardio)
8am - 40g Whey + 3g Creatine
8:30am - Scrammbled Eggs (2 whole, 2 whites) + 250ml Innocent Smoothie + 2g Cod Liver Oil
12pm - 100g Chicken, + 100g Salmon & 1 Apple
3:30pm - 100g Chicken & 25g Walnuts
7pm - 200g Chicken or Steak or Salmon or Tuna Steak + Loads of Veg (Broccolli + Carrots)
10pm - 3g BA + 3g Taurine + ZMA
10:30pm - 150g Cottage Cheese

Started Clen/ECA cycle today (2wks Clen, 2Wks ECA etc.)

Will have 1 cheat meal at the weekend (Chinese/Curry/Pizza/Roast etc) and must admit I have a couple of pints and a few double vodka diets cokes on a Friday night as I'm not prepared to give up my social life and really enjoy a few drinks with mates to upwind (hey, I'm not a Pro BBer!)

Any obvious shortfalls or required changes?

Many thanks

Juke.

as far as obvious short falls go, the alcohol is a pretty easy one to spot. i know you said you dont wanna give up your social life but if you cut down a bit thatd help, and if you have a date in mind that you wanna look your best for, maybe 2 weeks in the run up to that, you could quit drinking altogether, im sure your mates would understand what your doing it for.
the cheat meal is always one to catch people out, people always say 'but im entitled to one naughty meal per week'. you are in fact entitled to as many as you want, but given what your training for and how hard youve worked, just imagine how far ahead youd be if instead of every cheat meal, you had somthing more like what a bodybuilder should be eating! true its boring and theres not a whole lot of variation, but itll get you where you wanna be faster if you exercise a little more self control (not saying your not already exhibiting self control, just a tiny bit more).

you could try alternating walnuts and brazil nuts.
the innocent looks like its ina  good place, but have you looked for a lower sugar alternative? maybe somthing thats sugar free or with more complex carbs of the same quanitity? i know fruit sugars are normally digested but tinnocent GI's are fairly high whihc will give you an insulin spike thatll encourage storage of any fats your getting from your eggs. just a thought.

what doses are you hitting for your ECA stack? the E and the C, shold help speed up your metabolism a bit huh! lol

My understanding is that a cheat meal once a week is actually good for cutting as it kicks your body out of starvation mode and fans the metobolic flames...?

I also thought high GI carbs and an insulin spike PWO is a good thing...?

There's very few carbs in there, is there a reason for that?

          Two things that strike me
          1) why all the supplements
          2) why the clen/ECA when you wont cut alcohol or cheat meals to achieve your goal?

Look at this way - your clen/eca will if you are super lucky raise your resting metabolism by 10%
thats 232 calories based on a baseline calc of your daily needs being 2325 per day, 1624 a week
There are at least 180calories in a pint, and 55 in every shot of vodka
plus then you have your meal - you do the maths!

            Hi Big Les,

I must admit I dont usually use that many supps, went a bit mad last time I visited Myprotein!! i usually stick to Whey and Creatine..

I was under the impression that a cheat meal once a week was a good thing as it kicked your metabolism up the arse if it was starting to creep into starvation mode from cutting...? Maybe I should reconsider..

Re the drinking - I figure I drink about 700cals once a week (2 pints and 3 double vodkas). Thats the equivilent of 1lb every 5 weeks (based on 3500 per lb). I would rather lose 2lb less over the course of a ten week cut and have a social life to be honest! I dedicate myself 165 hours out of 168 hours per week to BBing and have a very stressful job! I figure thats enough. Hey, I'm not a Pro..!

              Hi there

Now your cutting diet has been critiqued and you have had the obvious shortfalls and required changes highlighted, you have to just weigh up what is more important to you.

The good news is you can have a social life and still loose those extra 2lbs. Drinking alcohol isn’t compulsory to enjoy a social Friday night out. Is it?

With regards to cheat meals. Have them from time to time but only if you are lacking the willpower to stay strong. Although with no proper carbs I’d be starving by the weekend!

I’d agree with Les about all the supplements. After all, you’re not  a pro :-) lol

                Hi RedHotF,

I've beening cutting for a while now, about 6 or 7 weeks. At the start I did have a fair about of low GI carbs in my diet. About 4 slices of granary bread a day (2 with breakfast and 2 with lunch) and a portion of potatos or brown/basmatti rice with dinner. But I've been slowly decreasing the carbs over the 6/7 week period (i.e. 1 slice less a week) and now have the above.

Do you think I should reintroduce some low GI carbs back into my diet then...?

                Cheers

                Juke.
