DAZ BALL THE INJURY THE RECOVERY THE COMEBACK 31 December 2010 01:29 (permalink)
Just want to start of with a sorry to everyone who supports me i have not updated anyone about how i have been getting on well truth is was the hardest time of my life. It all started just before the brits after doing cardio on a sunday morning i started cleaning up the weights in the gym and picked a 15kg plate up with one hand as i picked it l felt a ping in my arm and cud see i had done a bad injury the pain was'nt bad.
I rang neil and told him the bad news and then went to the hospital and was told the bad news it was the hardest day of my 30years knowing all the hard work and improvments we had made had just gone down the drain.
We booked in for the op 10days later to fix the bicep tendon the op went well but the next day he told me had left wires out the back of my arm which we wud sort out at a later date which i didnt know was going to be a 2nd op.

The cast was on for 6 weeks it was a back cast so was very heavy so for first 2weeks i had to sleep in a chair which was a very long 2weeks hours seemed like days and all i was doing was clock watching then it came to the brits weekend and it hit me again but was very happy for my friend ALVIN SMALL has been great going up against him the last few years and will miss going up against him. You never know we cud hopefully meet on stage once again one day.

After that weekend i felt better in myself started being able to sleep in my bed which was great, then we seem to hit problems with the arm and the doc wanted to take things very slow which i was finding hard. The good things i was finding a new me doing things with the kids not worrying about bodybuilding every min of every day so was finding a new me leaning little things about my body which i hope will help me and neil in the upcoming years we will be working together.

Then op 2 was done and that put me back in my head so i said to myself thats start some cardio i have the last 2 weeks and my arm seemd to be getting much better even doing a bit of thai boxing a few times a week only using my legs but now my head is alot better and i feel great and very fit so now i will start the real RECOVERY.

So what did you actually do, you forgot to mention what you done and skipped to needing an op for bicep tendon?
Did you tear your bicep picking up the 15kg weight? that is unlucky if so, i think dave titerton? think thats his name, NABBA british champ, tore his pishing his kid on a swing?
i dont understand how it can let go just for the sake of it, scary really!

Good luck.  Having torn my shoulder before I know how these things can knock you back.  Knowing you, you will come back all the stronger and looking even better than you did (and you were looking huge when I was watching the Port Talbot show with you and Lambo!).  All the best and here's for a good new year and a good recovery!

hey daz, glad all is on the mend and the mental head fcks have stopped... 2010 was a year full of injuries for many on MT including myself, i know how frustrating it is to be sat in the consulting room hearing the surgeon tell you the bad news...and to be sat back in there after a month or so hearing exactly the same speech

glad you spent the time with the family, i did the same and it helps bring things back into perspective doesnt it!

All the best for 2011, catch up at the british grandprix

Good luck, it looks as if I've joined the MT Bicep Tear Brigade so you have my deepest sympathies.

I'm still waiting on a scan for mine and fortunately I have no physical deformities but 2 months after the injury it barely feels any better.

All the best in the NY.

Hope its all ok, just watched Terry Hollands do 5 atlas stones in WSM not long after a bicep tear and I think just how happy he was shows that he must have got thru the mental barrier of this injury.

Hope 2011 is an injury free season and everyone takes there goals to the max

                      Happy new year guys

                        Hi Daz

Did you find out why they left the wires in? I had my distal tendon repaired with the two incision method and I studied the American forums on this surgery and noone ever mentioned leaving wires in or having to have a second op whether you have the 1 cut or 2 cut option.

Have you torn the muscle or the tendon? you have to have the tendon repaired within a month or its permanently shortened and cant be fixed.Sounds like youve torn some muscle fibres, did your arm turn blue/black?

Hi Oli, I went to the docs after about 5 weeks but I went to visit a sports injury specialist and chiropractor as soon as it happened.

There was no discoloration to speak of but the pain is still present and it's at the top of the bicep/arm pit/anterior delt region so definitely an indication of bicep damage. It's definitely not a complete rupture but a part of me wishes it was so I could get the treatment that I needed ASAP instead of fudging around for weeks. It's been over 2 months and has hardly changed in terms of pain outlet so something is definitely wrong.

I've got an ultrasound in 10 days so I'm hoping for the best on that one really.

                                Cheers.

                                  Hey

Yes that waiting about is very frustrating. The bicep attaches into the shoulder at two points and it sounds like you have damaged one of them or even both, but obviously not enough for it to detatch from the muscle/shoulder itself.Theres a forum out there called the distal bicep forum so Im sure there will be one for the upper part of the arm and maybe they will advise on what can be done in the event of a semi-tear.I can definately assume it will be a weak point and liable to tear fully if it gets any trauma! (I did mine..missing a focus pad, sparring!)

                                  Good luck

Thanks for the info Oli, it is frustrating but I know it's just a matter of time. The human body is an incredible machine that doesn't like to stay broken forever.

                                      All the best.
