Well went gym for deadlifts and ended up a bit of a weird crazy session as new program starts next week

Deadlifts - reset each time, pulled off floor NO STRAPS

      60kg x 15
      100kg x 12
      140kg x 8
      140kg x 6
      180kg x 6
      200kg x 3
      140kg x 6 DEAD BURNT OUT haha

Flat bench - wider grip, slower tempo, more TUT

      60kg x 12
      100kg x 10
120kg x 8 then 2 reps rest pause and 1 rep rest pause
      100kg x 8 dropset to 60kg x 6

      Wide CHINS

      BW x 10
      Weighted 10kg x 6 then rest pause x 3 then rest pause x 3 then rest pause x 2

STanding shoulder press ( rippletoe form trying new way )

      50kg x 12
      50kg x 12

Sweating more than ever, felt great, blood pumping, all compunds and so much more enjoyable

RIGHT total change of goals and this time it sticking as I am doing the

BPC open powerlifting comp in September @Greyphantom I think that is when it is....

I have thought long and hard about a BB show, I am simply not ready body wise, mental wise, life wise, me and missus have had very hard 18 months, that thread other day about prep put things in perpective it will cause stress.

MISSUS AND I WILL HAVE NO ADDED STRESS OF DIETING TO EXTREMES, IT JUST ISNT WORTH IT IMO

My appetiet is **** and I stress over food, doing this I can eat healthy but If I want something I wont feel guilty

I did deadlifts today and bench and just realise I love doing them, I hate bicep curls and isolations

SO aftre big discussions I will start on FIRST ever strength routine 5 x 5 mon/wed/fri

I will not change the routine at all and work to the letter on how it says build up slowly, I will do CV on off days and also abs/calves thats it

I will definetly do a BB show one day and love it however I have so much of a buzz for heavy training lateley and wanna do what I am currently enjoying....

Powerlifting will be biggest challenge for me yet, I am not exactly equipped for it especially in gym I train but gonna give it a go

Have no clue mate but I reckon in the gym right now I could pull

220kg dead no straps ( only done deads twice with no straps )
Bench has lost strength but I reckon a 140kg comp style
Squats right now be lucky to get a 160kg ( niggles )

But these should go up, been told first 4 week on 5 x5 is lighter and form and just be pateint

Something new as never trained for strength

Interesting change of direction mate. Probably a good move too, the added strength, power and muscle will give you a distinct advantage when you do step up on a bb stage.
Best of luck with the new training plan, looks like you enjoy power training so should be an enjoyable change! Hope it all goes to plan for you bud!

              GOALS:

Cheers OX, it is a perfect chance to compete still, train how I enjoy it heavy and hard and not stress over every meal

Strong lifts 5 x 5 will be the program, simple basic as never trained for strength

Hoping form, leg endurance and numbers go up

will take 4 weeks to adjust so thats good to get form right

                  Good move mate!

And anyway doing the powerlifting will give a good base for doing BB show!
And you are very strong for your weight too so as things progress you should do well.

Yeah it states drop weights by 50% on first session, then you have a tracker each session for 12 weeks, so will stick with it

Main thing is will be squats x 3 weekly haha

Hey guys, well I read up loads last night and gonna give Stronglifts 5 x 5 a go, this is totally new for me, never trained 3 days a week, never trained for strength, but really seeme fired up to try this, 12 week program takes me to my holiday also.

                      WORKOUTS are

                      Workout A

                      Squats 5 x 5
                      Bench Press 5 x 5
                      Bent over row 5 x 5

                      Workout b

                      Squats 5 x 5
                      Overhead press 5 x 5
                      Deadlift 1 x 5 ( working set ) 2 warm ups
                      Chins 3 x 12 BW

                      You alternate a - b - a then week after b - a - b etc and so on

I have a tracker so you input first weeks weights and then shows you rough idea of what to lift next week

                      All 60 - 90 seconds rest

I will probably start my lifts on monday at

                      Squats 100kg
                      Bench 110kg
                      Deadlift 160kg
                      Overhead press 60kg
                      BOR 100kg

Gives room for progression, say week 1 - 4 drop weight etc, so hopefully they are good starting lifts etc

On rest days I will be doing CV as I want this metabolic / heart health etc, I will not change the workouts above but may do abs and calves on a seperate day followed by stretching calves out a lot ( this will help with squats as there tight )

Good luck with this mate. I have used the 5x5 method before to very good effect but what i will say is make sure you keep strict with the formula. Once you have put your weights into the spreadsheet, stick to it to the letter and hit your increments as prescribed.

Where i went wrong was trying to go too heavy too soon (ego lifting) fried my cns and felt burnt out. Once i recognised my failings and kept it strict, good things happened!

Hi mate just noticed your journal on here, will be following.

So you 100% doing pl ?

Yes mate 100%, will do the BPC UK open in September as an opener, supposed to be good for novices...

Never trained for strength, hence reason starting me basic stronglifts 5 x 5 as that will take away the normal crazy volume I do for BB.....

Any advice welcome bro, I was gonna PM you on FB about how you liked it etc

Cool, yes I heard its good for novice lifters, I was going to do it last year but pulled out due to cost of travel ect. I really enjoyed my comp and am def doing more, I think the training has really helped with my bodybuilding aswell cos am doing basic heavy lifts, I already look more solid and thick, I think after a few more months of heavy training and I will have made some good gains.

Genesis gym I think in Wembley. My lifts went up loads just after a short amount of training so you might be shocked what you can lift.
