Cheers ghopki, well as you can imagine over the years I've tried most of the training protocols, sets, rep ranges etc... After the first 4-5 years training became much more instinctive although there was always a structure to what I did (from time to time I would change and do a specific training regime that would have of course dictated pretty much what I did.)
Now my training is dictated by 2 main factors firstly as I've gotten older I have found that I must train less regularly - I'm now training each bodypart/muscle group no more than once every 7-8 days.
Secondly numerous injuries have dictated that I reduce the weights I train with and sometimes the exercises I can perform although as of late I'm managing to work round most of my long standing problems (mostly joint related).
Large muscle groups such as back, chest and legs I will perform 2-3 exercises and perform anywhere up to 12 sets again reps range from 2 up to 15 depending on how I feel.
Biceps and Triceps I train again with 2-3 exercises but don't normally go over 8 sets with rep range normally from 4/5-12.
Delts/shoulders I will train with 3 exercises as I beleive due to the complex nature of the joint requires a variety of exercises so fully stimulating anterior, lateral and posterior deltoids.
Don't do much for calves they are ok without training (17.5-18") but occassionally do some high rep 1 leg toe raises.
Abs are performed 5-6 times per week crunches and leg raises and sometimes a variety of other exercises to hit obliques, intercostals etc.. 1 set of each up to 100 reps.
Some of my training would seem to be against the current "norm" but after nearly 30 years it works for me. I also beleive that training should be fun and don't like rigidity. I train not only for results but because I enjoy it something that has kept me in good stead for nearly 30 years bar the last 18 months (which was more down to choice/necessity rather than boredom etc..)
I can be old fashioned in my views as I really don't think you should over complicate things. I have great success in the past both strength and development wise which did put me up with the best so it obviously worked.
I think its more important when training to build a personal knowledge of what works for you, of course listen to others but read and experiment as much as you can and be open to suggestions/different ideas etc...
Incidentally no training today other than some abs later this evening.
All going well and after only 4 days of my "diet" the old body has started to change, mainly due to water etc...
I'll also post pictures every 3-4 weeks.
