Hi Daz, regarding the side lateralls that you do at the begining of the workout (Charles Glass style).
I tried them today and found them really awkward to get the right feel in the shoulders, do you have any tips for getting the movement right, looks kinda straight forward but just didnt feel right at all.
I usually do my side laterals seated with feet elevated on the bench so as to eliminate any sort of swinging up of the d/bell that so many seem to do. So its not that im used to cheating the d/bells up.
thanks

great Vid!

2 questions regarding the exercises in the vid;

2:31 in you do an exercise which resembles treating a 10-15kg plate as a steering wheel...First time i've seen this exercise.  Can you elaborate on this please?

5:07 in you do a type of upright row on the squat rack, but from behind.  What advantages do you feel this has over a traditional upright row?

Much appreciated

The steering wheel movement hits the front delt and really deepens the seperations between front and side you have to try it to feel how good it is a great isolation movement.
The row movement is the best way to hit traps its a row shrug in one its a old school movement. Your traps run down your back and you feel it all the way down have a go.

Hi Daz,i done something similar to your shoulder workout vid that was posted up.

I performed every exercise you done in the vid totalling to 14 sets but with very little rest in between sets.

I was just wondering firstly do you do these type of workouts more often or do you, 1 week go heavy with lower volume then 1 week go light with higher volume etc?

Secondly i was wondering do you implement this sort of training to other body parts including smaller muscle groups like biceps?

Thanks in advance and enjoying seeing your progress. :-)

Hi again mate,i see you do use this training alot and for most body parts!

So my question would be now how often do you go heavy with lower volume?

Thanks again.

i do volume for all bodyparts i do go heavy if i do i will have a bit longer rest maybe 1 to 2 mins but i dont like heavy you cant do the movement how i like with lots of holding at the top of movements and u have to have longer rest i think with short rest u make a better harder looking muscle keep it up pal

Few questions if I may:

1 - What is the macronutrient breakdown of the diet?
2 - Eating grapefruit, is that for the Naringin content or?

Question for Daz:

What is it that you do, that you feel helps you get that shredded-granite-hard look? And do you feel coming in so dry and cut is at the expense of fullness?

Thanks

Hi MikeS - welcome to MT

1) Don't know - I don't work these things out as I see no need (debated many times before!)
2) In part, and part because of other nutrients and because it's nice!

That's a great question for Daz....

Daz and I reviewed things yesterday and I'll be updating the static journal very soon

Thanks for the welcome.

If it works it works I always say!

Lets hope Daz has some time to answer this question. I certainly would be interested to know if he thinks it is because of what he does (whether nutritionally/supplements/cardio strategies/other), or if he thinks it is predominantly genetic.

James: Does Daz have a hydration strategy? Being so big I should imagine he gets dehydrated quite rapidly. Do you follow the ACSM recommendations or does he simply drink if he feels he needs to?

Daz is one of the top guys in the country so this journal should be very interesting.

I'm not sure that you mean by ACSM recommendations?

Yes he does have a dehydration strategy - involving sodium loading and depleting.

By ACSM I meant American College of Sports Medicine. They're position stand on fluid replacement recommends a certain amount of fluid, along with sodium for water retention.

I'm guessing the sodium loading & depleting is more for competition? Out of competition does he drink a certain amount of water a day or?

Not important really just wondering :)

the thing that makes me shredded and rock hard is hit training with the weights and cardio i use things like boxing and thai boxing as part of my cardio and when i use the weights its short rest between sets not thinking about lifting the weights but thinking how the weights is going to add more muscles to this part of the body. Dont get me wrong now and then i will train with heavy weights but still not to heavy that i have to think more about them then moving them right

Re:MuscleTalk Sponsors Daz Ball - The Journal - 07 March 2009 14:48
hi everyone i have made few changes to my training going from 4 days to 5 days now and i have split back up to make that extra day and put one extra bicep session in.
For back i do width and thickness so on width day lots of pulldowns and pull ups and thickness more rows and deadlifts still going with lots of volume and reps 12 to 15 but next week going to a heavy week so that will be bit longer on rest between sets 1min to 1min 30secs.

i like to change things up all the time alot of people wud not go heavy 8 weeks before a show but i stick with how things fall and now i have 4 weeks of this then i will go to 6 days a week and hit whole body twice a week one heavy and one for reps to bring out that last bit.

i will keep it updated with my lifts this week and you can see wot you think to my lifts like i say i dont care really but i do stick to how things fall so when its time to go heavy i will and my lifts are not to bad i still will not go below 8 reps.

Cardio will stay as it is 30 mins after training twice a day and on saturday i will do the morning thats it. As for cardio in the week morning is hit cardio and like i say i work with my friend jim wallhead and do pads and other bits evening is bike or walking and is just nice and easy just another to get a sweat on.

Well hope you enjoy the read next week and keep on pumping.

Daz,

how long have u been splitting up your back session for width and thickness?

Do u feel this has helped a lot as was thinking about it myself or do u think it's more just for the advanced/pro BBers like yourself?

cheers

Ah that wasnt a criticism, I was just curious is all because your always looking freaky shredded and since Dexter came in softer at the O last year (but still in shape) he looked alot bigger for it even though he admitted himself it was not extra weight. I posed the same question to Dorian Yates (he had that crazy granite look too at one point) but he didnt respond lol so thanks! I am doing my very first show this year so was just kinda curious what you thought was crucial in acheiving that insane conditioning - as thats what I want :)

Totally agree it is a sport where you keep developing!

I get what you mean. I have noticed about your boxing style training.. I've added some skipping into my cardio routine at the moment (only 5mins to start) as well as stationary bike so we'll see how that go's...the more different the better I think!

Hi Daz

What are your cholesterol ratios and bp readings like whilst on?

How long do you intend to carry on competing? Much room left for improvement do you think?  Do you think adding more mass is most important to you or symmetry/ shape and conditioning?

Sorry for all the questions haha
Cheers

Daz,

how long have u been splitting up your back session for width and thickness?

Do u feel this has helped a lot as was thinking about it myself or do u think it's more just for the advanced/pro BBers like yourself?

cheers

i like to change my training around alot it may be reps, sets ,or days i train on but this is another thing you can do to improve to me one of the most eye catching body parts the back If you look at most peoples training plan a back session will be maybe 4 exercises to me for a bodypart so big its not another but if u was to do all the exercise you need in one session you will be over training. So give it a go over 6 weeks and see how u feel good luck with it and let us know how you get on.
