I was just reading some stuff on the training section and then went into General and the guys ere talking about the dealifts and the injuries from them...really serious ones...I'm now wondering if I should be doing these?...I have been and I don't use a heavy weight as I'm a beginner, I think the heaviest weight I do is 35kgs...i'm very careful to use good form, but now I'm wondering if I should be doing them?...what is the alternative to this move? I know I prolly shouldn't go surfing up and down and reading all this stuff (My name is NG and I am a sponge)..i buy a womens BB mag, just to help me with more info.....(OMG!! do I really need more input)...lol...but they always show females doing deads and say if you do it properly it should be ok...so I'm just having my normal twenty questions moment....what do you think gals/guys?.....thanks for any answers....:)

Deadlifts are the ultimate exercise and there is no alternative. If done correctly then they are no more dangerous than any other exercise.

Ollie, you've had someone show you correct form and also checked YOUR form ? As Kitty said it's a very good core exercise, and it's the base of my back workout (although it can be argued that it's a leg movement). I do normal deads on back day and sldl on leg day. Nothing wipes me out more than 3 heavy sldl sets straight after squats. But then again, some do worry that deads widen your waist, and you can survive without doing deads. Lower back can be done with back extensions, rows and pullups round off a back workout. But with deads you workout the thighs, glutes, lower back, forearms, traps, stomach muscles etc. That's why I love doing them.
