Dell Hard desktop hard-drive needs replacing. 18 November 2009 02:00 (permalink)
a seperate thread for my other P.C

I have a dell p.c at home. The hard drive is faulty on it. Where is the best place to get a replacement hard drive? I heard you can get a 'replicate' Dell hard drives??

because I have noticed te pins on the Dell hard drive are considerbly different to 'normal' hard drives.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001IKKCLS will sort you right out.  You sound like you have a SATA drive (PATA or IDE being the older wider fatter standard).

Does sound like a SATA drive but at this stage it has to be best to double check

id guess its a old IDE PATA drive as SL said the pins are different to the 'normal' drives, SATA is pretty much the standard HDD format these days , are the connecting cables quite wide ribbon cable? or are they thin normal looking cable ? easiest way of seeing which
