Diet advice please (bulking)
22 January 2012 22:29
( permalink)
Hi guys, I started training about a year ago and want to now take it more seriously. I realise how important it is to have a good diet so this is what I have come up with so far: 7:00 Whey protein with ground oats 8:00 Scrambled eggs and wholemeal bagel 10:00 Whey protein 12:00 Chicken breast and rice 14:00 Deli Chicken breast with wholemeal bagel 16:00 Almonds and apple 16:30 Train 17:30 recovery shake 18:00 Tuna steak, sweet potatoe, veg 20:00 Cottage cheese and oat cakes 22:00 Protein shake Will cheat on saturdays though Ive worked out that this will be 3600 cal, 340g protein, 400g carbs, 56 g fats, 11g sat fats I am 5'8, 70kg and fairly lean, Im looking to bulk up with muscle without putting much fat on and am looking to be around 73/74 kg by the summer. I will be doing a 4 day split which I found on here and doing about 30 mins running on the roads 3 times a week. If anyone could offer me tips or advice or point out some glaring omissions I would appreciate it, thanks.

looks ok needs a few little changes but you may put on some fat as your bulking up but your weight is 70kg and you hopt o be 75kg by summer i think you may get to 78-83kg depending if your gains are 0,5lbs -2lbs a week ehat is your recovery shake you need much more fruit and veg imo and a few more fats

Watch deli meats as they can often pack sugars and fats. do not understand the almonds and apple 30 minutes before training.

Maybe some carbs before training and definitely more fat spread over the whole day.

Is this really 3600 cals? Looks like something I could eat Tbh, as a newbie myself, if someone could copy and paste it, making the amendments I think that could help!

Thanks for the feedback guys. The general consensus is more fruit and veg, more fats and ditch the nuts and apple before working out. Based on this, Ill make a tub up of 2 x carrots, fine beans, apple, banana, almonds, raddishes and then just nibble on these between main meals. Ill also put watercress, spinach, rocket on the chicken bagel. For the fats Ill put flaxseed into my shakes, have about 20g 85% dark chocolate (awsome with the almonds) and half an avocado with my cottage cheese - Should give me about 35g more fats. Does this seem ok? also a couple of questions. 1) If I have the bagel at 2.30 and train at 4/4.30, would it still be advisable to have something close to training? 2) Im also thinking of replacing the 7 am oats and whey with a fruit smoothie (fruit juice, greek yogurt, small banana, whey, oats, frozen berries, flax, egg), obviously there is quite alot of simple carbs in this and Im sure I read somewhere that these should be avoided first thing in the morning, although I don't quite understand the logic behind this, is it true? Louise G: the recovery shake is MP's Recovery evo, was half price over christmas so stocked up. Cheers
