Dietary Advice 17 January 2012 18:10 (permalink)
Hi again all,

Had a talk with my gym owner today about devising me a diet plan etc. Found out that im aiming for the complete wrong target.

I want to be at my natural body weight, but with as much muscle definition as possible. You could say my natural fighting weight which i dont want to lose, which is middleweight.

For my goal of this, to pursue my goals in cagefighting, he said that a male of 22, 5ft 11, should be about 13-14 stone. With a slight sag in the gut, i thought 11.2 stone is overweight at the minute, and was going to try and drop down to 10 stone, to which he thought i would look ill if i did so. So i guess thats that then.

Which brings me again to ask the question which im asking a lot but don't seem to get a direct answer and didn't out of him, because he said its so difficult in relation to how much calories you actually burn and how active you are etc. My question is, how much should i be eating and how often. All i can say is, i don't drink anymore, and am willing to commit to anything, no matter how boring it is. He said my diet should roughly be 60% carbs, 30% protein and 10%ish fat, which he wouldnt bother calculating as the food i would eat already accumulates for it. He said eat well, train hard etc etc, and regarding food, eat carbs which are as complex as can be, e.g. why have a potato when you can have a sweet potato.

Something which interested me regarding my weight lifting workout plan was that he said instead of working one part of the body a day weight lifting, choose two lifting techniques for each part of the body, and do that everyday for each part of the body at the same time, with little rest in between which would roughly take 40mins according to him.

This brings me to again ask, how much and how often should i be consuming foods. Is there a calculator method to do this. Because most of them calculate the amount of food i should be eating for my body weight now, but i want something that calculates how much i should be eating to get to my "newly" desired goal of a "natural" 13 stone from my current weight now.

Thoughts, opinions and answers please.

Many Thanks,
Dale.

Dont really know what your getting at... MMA compete at the weight where you strong enough in relation to your peers.

All different body types compete, no one size fits all, if your too weak then eat more and get some more strength.

Hope this helps a bit :)

        This!

You need to get to a comfortable weight in which you feel like you're at your best. Would being leaner be better, or would you be more powerful carring some excess timber. You really need to think as to what the best goal is.

I would think to be a very good MMA fighter, physically you're going to need lots of stamina and endurance, good speed, agillity and reflexes, raw explosive power and strength.

To maximise these attributes, your diet must be spot on for best performance.

hi again and thanks for replies,

i still have not yet had the answer im kind of looking for. yes, being a cage fighter would mean as lean as possible, with no excess timber. but what im searching for, is an answer as to how much i should be eating in grams for everything eg carbs/protein/fat, to eventually achieve my natural weight.

my gym recommended 13/14 stone, but thats just rough. how can you estimate 13/14 stone??? thats a stone difference, which completely confuses me.

im just looking for the answers:

          - what should be my natural body weight (5ft 11 / Current Weight - 71kg)

          - how much fat/carbs/protein should i be consuming.

thats all i need to know, as ive got my weight lifting routine sorted, along with cardio, and im confident now of what i should be eating, just how MUCH lol.

          cheers again,
          dale.
