Dips Rings - 04 November 2009 10:33 ( #1 )
Finally got my gymnastic rings delivered.. strapped them onto a beam in my garage.
Ive added dips on the rings to my routine instead of normal dips and oh my god, these are hard!

Im shaking all over the place trying to stabilise myself whilst dipping down and its great. Very glad i got these, seems to use my chest alot in these more than i normally feel.

Anyone else tried these?

I haven't tried them but I really want to. I have a mate who's mainly into MMA/crossfit type training and he swears by these. He can bench 140kg and he said starting doing bodyweight exercises on the rings made him realise how weak he actually was! I shudder to think how weak I really am then if that's the case, haha.

Have you tried any other stuff with them, like skin the cats or L-sits?

Some guys at my gym use them quite often.  Looks quite nails to master, I reckon you would get much more of a workout from them due to the extra stability issues.

Me too, I love ring dips, such a tough exercise.  I do get funny looks in the park when I'm training with my rings using the kids swings frame though!

This is purely anecdotal, but based on my relative proficiency with normal dips versus ring dips, I reckon the extra effort required with the rings is equivalent to an extra 30kg of resistance on each rep (I weigh 90kg).

when you are at the bottom of the dip and ready to push back up start rotating your hands so that when you reach the top your palms should be facing away from you..(as if you were holding a bar for bicep curls)..
really works your bi's doing the rotation..
have a look on gymnasticbodies.com...
