Hi im 28 in a wheelchair due to a car crash , my best mate died so ive always felt lucky to be alive and never felt why me ( well maybe some times ) but hey im only human , im just glad i dnt have an illness i mean i know how im going to wake up every morning and theres always sum1 worse of so here goes im trying to loose some fat , been training for 2 yrs but never commited till now im quite fit but feel my body image is not good im always concious and confidence is low im sitting down in the chair and find myself trying to pull my stomach in , it's time to start a journal and there's no going back , only forward from here , I promise to be honest Height 6 ft Weight 14st 8lbs Biceps 16" Stomach 47" Chest 47" Mid section 45" I'm conscious on cals as I'm using only my arms Ive followed able bodied diets before and put weight on I eat reasonably clean as of today this is typical day for me 8am shredded wheat 9 am Core work ( limited but can feel soreness in my muscles )! 10.30 whey and oats in water 12.30 white rice , chilli con carne (weight watchers) 3pm tin tuna and banana 4.30 Rowing for 30 mins 5.5 k I've put a clamp on the seat to stop it moving works well Pwo 5 pm 20g dextrose 6pm 6oz sirloin and small jacket 9 pm whey in water Training will be as follows Cardio 2 days 30 mins before breakfast Weight 3 days Day 1 back + biceps Day 2 chest + triceps Day 3 shoulders I will also do my core as much as I can and supplement with multi vit, glucosamine , bcaa, omega 3 Points to bear in mind 1 I'm in a chair so not burning much cals during the day ( 2 my arms rarely get a rest so I'm prone to injuries ( shoulder clicking) 3 I put weight on so easy 4 I'm willing to do whatever it takes as being fat and in a wheelchair is a no go I really wana make it work

Hi bud, good to see you getting motivated and getting a journal. We certainly have 1 or 2 other chair bound members here so hopefully they'll spot your journal for some input. Any short term goals?

good luck with your training and diet mate. As mentioned above, there are other disabled members on the board but if you're on facebook, Darren winfield stanesby (sp?) seems like a really good guy and was inspirational when he competed at the ukbff finals last year. May be worth a chat with?

Hi mate, good to see you've started a journal! Your motivation is pretty inspiring! For the issue with constipation I found drinking loads of water & adding a couple of scoops of wheat bran into my diet helped move things along. You can get wheat bran quite cheap from supermarkets or H&B as well. I got 750g of it for £1.20 at H&B on Saturday. It will last for ages as like I said you only need 1 or 2 protein powder scoops worth.

Good luck with this, as said there are a couple of other wheelchair trainers on the website so you're not the only one and am sure they will be good to talk to and get help with and help with your own advice. This may sound ignorant, which im sorry if it does as is not meant to be, but am always interested in what sort of cardio wheelchair users take part in?

Sounds like you handled that well bud. It's always challenging with other half's and explaining the rationale behind what we're doing. That being said, you can allow yourself a little room as well every now and again, as sometimes a little room means the end goal is that much more satisfying when you reach it!
