Disposing of needles 10 February 2012 19:04 (permalink)
Just interested as some members use a sharps bin to dispose of used needles/barrels etc, whilst others don't and use other means of disposing of them after use.
Just seems like a contradiction to me that members give out responsible advice regarding AAS/ped usage but are in different to disposal after use???
Personally I use a sharps bin and take back to the chemists and would advocate all users to be respnosible when disposing of sharps/barrels.

    imo:

Ideal solution: Sharps bin and hand over in a chemist
Acceptable solution: Sealable container such as a used coke bottle and binned.

Obviously, all pins should be capped in both scenario's

      I agree with that.
Before I got a sharps bin, I used an empty milk carton with the lid on tight. Plus the needle cap is on.
But I even regret that. Should of got the bin in the first place. But here we are LOL.

      Good topic by the way!

I'm not sure that anything other than proper disposal via sharps bin and handed in at a place where they collect them and take them for medical incineration is actually acceptable.

Medics don't as there is additional risk of needlestick injury and therefore the potential to contract hiv/hepatitis etc. But we're sticking ourselves 99% of the time so there's no reason not to cap it.

I use a sharps bin. I also cap every pin before puttin it in said sharps bin.

Will boots accept the sharps bin then? I've been wondering where to take it when it's full.

Doctors/nurses don't re-apply caps manually after administering a shot. The sharps bin provides a way of removing the pin whereby it drops into it without them even touching the pin itself.

There is a danger to the nurse of stabbing herself with the used pin when re-applying the cap.

In this instance it's safer to drop the pin uncapped straight into a sharps bin.
