Do you take the stairs?

This seems to be common "health & fitness" advice from the government, yet I find that I never, ever take the stairs if the lift or the escalator is an option.

Hell no, I get the lift up 1 floor every day for work to avoid the stairs. ...I do use the stairs for downwards though, does that count?

Too risky........At one of my clients offices you actually have to take a "stair safety" course, I kid you not. At the top and bottom of every staircase there is a big sign with the do's and don'ts of stair climbing, I only wish I was taking the p1ss.

We've had a major refit at work, including a new staircase. Latest H&S advice is to use the stairs to go up, only, and to come down in the lift. It seems some people going up and others going down simultaneously is too dangerous. Lol.

I avoid escalators and lifts if I can, if we are only taliing a floor or two. Obviously if for some reason your days means going up and down floors all the time?

Pretty much always if I can - nothing to do with Laziness/energy ,all to do with impatience. I simply hate waiting for lifts , queuing , waiting at traffic lights .... anything like that !

Depends how active I am that day, and what I'm carrying. If staying in a hotel and going to use the gym in the basement, I'll take the stairs as a warm up/training - seems stupid to go do cardio on a machine, then take the lift up the stairs!

I work 5 up, nearly always take the stairs up and down. It annoys the life out of me if I do take the lift and some able bodied person gets in the lift to go one floor, causing my 5 floor journey to take twice as long! So now I just take the stairs! I have heard of companies, usually American companies that have stair climbing policies/rules - ALWAYS keeping to a certain side going in a certain direction and NEVER teking your hand from the rail etc... disciplinary action taken if you deviate from policy etc! I guess as a result of the ambulance chasing culture which is slowly seeping like a sh1t down rightys leg into our society!

Coke had a 'three points of contact' policy at one of their sites (Wakefield IIRC) for using stairways. Shame that there main entrance stairway was about 5 mtrs wide, meaning it was impossible to use. It did apply to that stair too, 'Three Points of Contact at all Times' was stencled in red letters on the face of each stair.
