Doctor told me my diet is unhealthy due to protein, wtf?

Went to docs today as having a lot of reflux/acid. In the apointment he comments on my size/condition ( as he did in my paid for medical saying I was very fit/healthy ) then he goes on to my eating habits to try and get to the cause of the acid problem. Went from being impressed at my size/conditon, (6 foot 17 stone) to having a go at me over having a go at me over the protein content. Horror stories about kidney stones and other things. Then how unhealthy it was. I reminded him as he already knew, that I was tea total, dont drink, dont smoke and train 6 times a week. His reply was that although i may look healthier than the average alcoholic that comes in, i am still leading an unhealthy lifestyle by consuming the protein amount I do (roughly 180-200 grams per day) and implied i was doing long term damage WTF? Surely I'm healthier than the drug addicts, alcoholics and obese people he sees everyday. I'm 31, married with kids, have my own businesses and tbh left feeling like I'd just been bolloked by a parent or teacher...

“Do regular high protein diets have potential health risks on kidney function in athletes? Abstract Excess protein and amino acid intake have been recognized as hazardous potential implications for kidney function, leading to progressive impairment of this organ. It has been suggested in the literature, without clear evidence, that high protein intake by athletes has no harmful consequences on renal function. This study investigated body-builders (BB) and other well-trained athletes (OA) with high and medium protein intake, respectively, in order to shed light on this issue. The athletes underwent a 7-day nutrition record analysis as well as blood sample and urine collection to determine the potential renal consequences of a high protein intake. The data revealed that despite higher plasma concentration of uric acid and calcium, Group BB had renal clearances of creatinine, urea, and albumin that were within the normal range. The nitrogen balance for both groups became positive when daily protein intake exceeded 1.26 g.kg but there were no correlations between protein intake and creatinine clearance, albumin excretion rate, and calcium excretion rate. To conclude, it appears that protein intake under 2. 8 g.kg does not impair renal function in well-trained athletes as indicated by the measures of renal function used in this study. I have read similar in a Book called The Optimum Nutrition Bible by Patrick Holford, although he seemed to specify proteins from red meat, rather than fish or Whey... Is/Could there be a difference in the source of the protein?

Try to find one study showing it is bad for you. One.

Some medical professionals do become quite puzzled when they hear of bodybuilding diets and protein intake. I personally believe that too much protein in a diet is certainly not good for you, thats my belief, how detremental it is for health I dont know. I seen an NHS physio recently and she was asking about what I do in the gym. I told her I like to overhead press, she looked at me very puzzeled and said why? Then she said, again "why would you do that?" I knew from there on in, that she was useless and after a few sessions, she was indeed useless.

Yeah my doctor gives me all the same jip, I recently had a health checkup and of course they were shocked with my BMI at 36.96 which is Obese Class 2 or morbildly obese, so they ask about diet and I tell them I eat between 350-400g protein a day too and they freak out about that too. I dont drink or smoke and I drink a lot of water to flush the kidneys and keep them healthy, I've never had an issue and I cant fathom how they think my heart is at risk even though I clearly explain I do 30 mins 5 x Week on the tread mill at 135BPM heart rate to keep my cardio vascular system healthy........BUT NO....we are more unhealthy than people who smoke and drink and do no excercise in thier warped minds

Im afraid Im not convinced mate; Most Obese people have rediculous Cholesterol levels for that very reason! Mine are fine and my heart is healthy. My blood pressure is normal, I have a low rest pulse of below 60bpm! so no indication that I am any less healthy heart wise than someone who weighs 60lbs less

I used to suffer from chronic elbow problems, mainly golfers elbow. I was advised by a physio, overhead presses put alot of direct strain on your elbows and are 'unnaturel' movement. I never stopped doing them and I would never recover as the pain would keep coming back. When I stopped doing them over a period of time, my normal routine stayed the same, I have not suffered elbow pain since. Just seemed like they aggrevated it more than anything else. Just a personal opinion from experience

See seem ignorant of the whole movement, not diagnosing it as the cause of any specific problem, or have I missed a part of the conversation llol.
