I've just started to take eph on recommendation of a friend. I broke a bone a metatarsal in my left foot and it kept me out of the last 5 months of my football season. my eating and drinking habits didn't change in that time and i put on a 1 stone 8. Been taking eph twice before football training and jogging and have lost a stone in one month. things are obviously working but would like some basic pointers from anyone who has used/using them? what's the way to get the best effects? cheers karl

To be fair Karl, im no expert with Ephedrine but what I would say is to that assuming you were quite fit before breaking the bone then im sure you would lose the majority of the weight pretty quick once back training again anyway. Its best not to use it if you dont really need it. Si

Hi. I'm interested with this Ephedrine. I wonder why people use this. What kind of medicine is this? Is this for weight loss?

margalicious, Ephedrine is used to aid weightloss. Commonly used in whats commonly known as an ECA stack. An ECA stack is made up of Ephedrine, Caffine and Asprin. Each item has its purpose and together makes a fairly decent weight loss aid. I belive the main reason why Ephedrine is used is becasue of its ability to raise your core temprature and thus making you "thermogenic", it sounds very familar to the DNP stuff in one of the other threads but on a much safer level. You need to be vary careful with asprin (bloodthinning) and caffine (heartrate / sleep). You can make a fairly inexpensive ECA by buying each component, i.e. proplus for caffine, asprin and sudafed for a source of Sudoephedrine. You can buy ECA stack pills online for around £25 for 60, EPH 25 for example, although you should always be very careful and think if you really need it before using such a product. Im not overly sure why you would be interested in using it if you didnt attually know what it was used for.

Its main function is to kill your appetite. its also quite nasty for raising blood pressure in t a lot of people and can become highly addictive. Pseudoephedrine doesnt work for appetite for me, it just works as a decongestant.

Ephedrine is a banned substance in the UK and by the IOC It is also illegal for sale in the US - where it is available as a decongestant/cough remedy - after a very contentious change in the law It is a metabolic stimulant, it acts on the central nervous system - 2 principle effects 1) raise in resting metabolic rate 2) reduction in appetite Chemically ephedrine is a cousin to amphetamine - and eph use can cause a postitive on a recreational drugs test (as done by some workplaces) because of this - and you have no defence given it a controlled substance. It is used in weight loss - however: the metabolic effects of eph top out at around 10% - on average. So that mean you raise yoru resting metabolic rate by 10%; thats the rate before you do anything - which is in men - which if it is 2000 calories (remember its the rate you burn doing nothing) you are very lucky So in a day eph will give you an extra 200kcals burnt - which a dietary mistake will obliterate in no time - a mars bar has more in it! As I mentioned eph is a central nervous system stimulant - and as such thats where the sides such as nervousness, insomnia, dry mouth, appetite loss come from - as well as the alertness, (and propensity to talk crap! in some people) The more you take the greater the sides, also you become habituated relatively quickly meaning it takes increasing doses to achieve an effect. The thing to consider is that the extra effect of a stimulant is not cumulative, so if you take eph, and another fat loss product that is also a cns stimulant you dont get 1+1 you get 1+0.000001 (more often than not) as there is a limit to how much stimulant effect you get through any particular set of receptors - in this case the amphetamine sensitive ones. So you will top out at best 250cals a day - you may think its worth it. Someone mentioned the stack - and yes it definitely works - the thing to remember is that the use of aspirin is not without its own risks - especially at the doses used in some stacks - the worst being internal bleeding and stomach ulcers - of course most dont get these but its worth bearing mind. Being a footballer - you could easily have a good diet, do some extra cardio and achieve more than eph could ever give you. Finally - pseudoeph - I have read a fair bit on this (a while ago) and the consensus I got was that pseudo eph does not have anywhere near the stimulant properties of eph - the chemical jiggery pokery that is pseudo-eph doesnt activate the receptors in the same way - after all its a molecule that has been made to look like ephedrine without actually being ephedrine. You still get the sides, and it works as a decongestant - same as eph - but in terms of raising metabolic rate - i was not convinced it has any effect at all. Overall - my opinion is that eph is for use in people where 10% extra is the difference between achieving and failing - which is elite level competitors in sport and not the average joe. Thats my 2c

Les, Ephedrine isn't banned in the UK. Its still widely available. However due to MHRA concerns the pack size was limited to 720mg of pseudoeph or 180mg Ephedrine HCL. Anything more must be prescribed by a GP and cannot be sold OTC. As far as i am aware, there was a consultation a few years back to change the statis of Ephedrine from (P) to POM (pharmacy and Prescription only medicine) regardless of pack size. http://www.mhra.gov.uk/...ltations/MLXs/CON2030434

Iopener - as far as I knew over the counter sales of eph were banned as its a POM controlled substance. Which is what i mean by banned - anything you cant buy OTC - banned for sale. I know its freely available and no one cares - but i wasnt aware OTC sales were allowed. I think the fact you can make crystal meth from eph was the clincher against OTC sale?

OTC sales are still allowed as its openly sold in my local Sainsburys without the need of a pharmacist. Thats what i mean by freely available. Crystal meth according to the very brief info i have seen (relating to the reclassification of the drug as POM) said you can make it from both HCL and Pseudo. If any law has been passed, i havent yet seen chemists and supermarkets pull Sudafed and their own brand decongestants from the shelves as of yet.

I have never found ephedrine that effective for weight loss. Works well as a pre workout boost though.

my experience of it. is like you found it works. it workins f*ing well. But when i was using it i was going a total of 4 hours a day to work out, burning around 2500Kcals a day. withour Ephidrine, i would not have been able to cope with that, at least physically. Which i found out after i quit. Lost all motevation to work out, was constantly exhausted and found my heart palpatating and skipping. + even after i stablised my routine, eventually my body was not accustumed to keeping that 6%bf, so i countinued to gain weight regardless of my diet. Like anything is a temp solution if your going to compete, nothing that will last.
