davey_c http://www.slate.com/id/2212232/ Good find. Pretty much sums up my original thinking. So bodybuilders like ourselves would probably be at least equal if not stronger than the chimp.

Mobster In the other thread I said 700lbs - it's higher in that link. Yes, but it also says, "But the "five times" figure was refuted 20 years after Bauman's experiments. In 1943, Glen Finch of the Yale primate laboratory rigged an apparatus to test the arm strength of eight captive chimpanzees. An adult male chimp, he found, pulled about the same weight as an adult man. Once he'd corrected the measurement for their smaller body sizes, chimpanzees did turn out to be stronger than humans—but not by a factor of five or anything close to it."

Irish Beast I doubt the figure 8 to 10 to be honest. You must also remember that the average man is a lot weaker than most people on here. I would work the jab and keep my feet moving. Then when I've worn him down I'd hit him with so many right hooks that he's be begging me for a left. Beast 1 Chimp 0 lol, its like we are members of some kinda superhero club lol.

Its true though. I challenged a friend of mine to have a go on the bench. He huffed and puffed getting 35 kilos up. I doubt he would be able to do much more than that! The gf actually managed 35 as well which was funny!

They are only gonna cause damage if you let them get in close. If you were skilled, you could win, a nicely timed kick to the jaw. If this was a Gorilla you were talking about then no chance lol, they are absolute beasts.

I think you'll find they can move a damn sight faster than you or I if they want to... they can also take a fair bit more damage I'll bet...

^^ that is too funny, with those kind of skills and a good dose of red mist, the chimp is going to win hands down.

Realistically man is going to have to get tooled up to fight an angry chimp and win. Man with baseball bat vs Chimpanzee??

None of you seen Kongo for crying out loud??? Not even motion sensor guns can stop them damn things! On a "serious" note, youve only got to worry about their teeth, as no matter how strong they are, they arent trained fighters. I have no idea what poundage they could produce from a bite, if its high, id pass as youd have no chance, if it wasmt hard enough to break bone, I reckon most of us would do one over tbh.

Can anyone remember that BBC drama series where this lad was half ape, half human but he looked like a totally normal human (but could climb trees and all matter of cool stuff). IIRC his name was Gordon. Anyhoo, the last episode showed him reintroduced to his ape mother and she pummled him. I think the outcome of that said series answers the conundrum adequately.

Irish Beast davey_c http://www.slate.com/id/2212232/ Good find. Pretty much sums up my original thinking. So bodybuilders like ourselves would probably be at least equal if not stronger than the chimp. I'm guessing even someone like Mobster would not have the grip strength of a male chimp. Then again no chimp would be much good at bench press. We're strong in different areas as we're different anatomically Chimps can throw themselves around and rip things apart more effectively than we can, also they have large teeth, thick skulls, and strong jaws, therefore I'd give a chimp an advantage in a fight Love the terrible joke btw lol

An example of what you'd be facing: That keeper was obviously an average joe, so you couldn't expect much. Seriously, though. The commentary guy is a knob.

I'd take an average chimp over any unarmed man on the planet in a physical fight.

They're probably quite hard to hit. they've got a long reach, all limbs flying about all over the place and not much body to aim for. if it played by Queensbury rules I'd have a go.
