Are you using any supplements or P.E.Ds? No offense but I have pretty much made up my mind that from my forties onwards I will use test or SARMs or whatever SARMs have developed into. If not sooner.

No mate, never have. Just good old honest training for me
Don't even know what SARMS are tbh!

Re: Training for Tenerife 2016/04/11 10:39:46 (permalink)
Thanks Deano, Dave.
I think the lull in the effort came from a combination of various factors - Post-Christmas blues, the ongoing night shift-induced fatigue, a cold, the new-found Tinnitus, financial pressures and general stress. All adds up to a feeling of being run down causing me to be rather depressed and the feeling of 'can't be bothered to do fvck all'. I even started a couple of general threads about this stuff; the guys on here are always very helpful with their replies and I'm sure they helped me combat all that sh!t.
Hopefully this has passed for a while

On the subject of the Tinnitus, I've just returned from the hospital this morning from my visit to the ENT doctor. First I had a hearing 'beep' test, followed by a proper check-up with the consultant. And I do have the Tinnitus, which is worse depending on the sounds I'm experiencing. Work is worse with the conveyors and fans, but it's also pretty bad when I play music but only in the car for some reason.
I also mentioned that I had an MRI scan a couple of years back because of some weird pressure build-up I got in my head (which I put down to heavy lifting). I was all clear then but I still get this now with a kind of 'heavy-headed fuzzy' feeling which is there all the time. Anyway, they've referred me once more to get another scan. Gotta get to the bottom of this thing.

I'll be training this afternoon after a nap (I've got to go back to work tonight, so I'll be trying to sleep in 'advance' if I can!). Want to have a go at the Smith 'medley' I used to do a while ago - incline bench from high to low - adding weight gradually as I end up with a flat bench. Great for the delts especially. See how it goes. Take care fellas

Sorry to hear about the tinnitus, mate. I have been lucky enough not to experience it, but I've heard and read from others it can be a living hell... I had a mild bout of labyrinthitis last year for the first time after a cold, and people often have the two together. Scared me ****less, as I thought I was having a stroke :>

Hope they find a fix to that heavy-headed fuzzy feeling asap.

Thanks bud. The tinnitus comes and goes, usually depending on whereabouts I've been working. It's not always easy to use ear plugs either as I have to watch out for forklifts and so on, but hopefully I can live with it at the stage it's at now. We'll see what the MRI scan says.

Re: Training for Tenerife 2016/04/11 16:03:22 (permalink)
No leg DOMS as yet from yesterday which surprised me, touching lots of wood around here right now as they will probably collapse under me tonight at work…
One of the lads on here today (I can’t remember who) noted that sometimes the weight isn’t that important for strength. Often it’s more of the stamina part of things – more reps at a mid-to-comfortable weight which can pack on the muscle with a generous amount of high reps to finish the exercise. I’ll have to bear that in mind when I get a bit stupid.

As I mentioned earlier I wanted to get back on the Smith machine after a very long break. Nothing too adventurous, just an alternative to the bench for a change. So starting with that I followed with some other chest/tri’s work, plus a biceps ‘top-up’ to finish.

Monday 11/4/16 – Chest/tri’s/delts:

1. Smith (medley):
20x20 warm-up
6x40, 6x45 @ 60° incline
6x50, 6x55 @ 45°
6x60, 6x65 @ 30°
3x70, 3x75 @ 15°
3x80 Flat bench

+ high reps @ 15°:
20x40
11x45 fail

2. Chest press:
6x50
6x60
6x70
6x75
15x40 high reps

3. Single DB raise:
25x40 high reps

4. E-Z curl, vertical pull on preacher bench:
10x30
5x40 – 4 sets

50x40 ab crunches

Happy with that, the triceps in particular benefitted from a humongous pump, so all is still achievable. After three days at the gym I’ll most likely have a rest tomorrow.
Thanks for reading.

More fine work sir, hope you get to the bottom of the tinnitus mate. I have it from time to time, a long time spent around running aircraft engines hasn't done my hearing any good.

Cheers bud, keeping it going.

That's it with the tinnitus, and that's probably a contributory factor to mine, even though it was some time ago now I loaded those AWACS.

Re: Floydy: Training for Tenerife 2016/04/13 15:51:01 (permalink)
My mid-week sessions will consist of whatever needs to be caught up on, and it’s a while since I did any back work so the back it was. I didn’t push myself too hard as this is the worst time of the week for me, halfway through my night shifts and the lethargy sets in big style. But a little is better than nothing so onwards and upwards we go…

Wednesday 13/4/16 – Back:

1. Lat pulldown, underarm grip:
10x50, 10x55, 10x60
6x65, 6x70, 6x75
25x35, 15x40 high reps

2. Seated rows:
10x47, 10x53, 10x59
25x35, 15x41 high reps

3. Single arm low row, alt:
8x75, 8x80, 8x85, 8x90, 8x95
5x100, 5x105, 5x110

Extras:
4. Forearm reverse curl:
15x15, 15x20

5. Ab crunches:
50x40
20x50

All went well, the heavier low rows were pretty taxing but I got through them okay. Tomorrow I’ll be adding an interim legs session to my programme featuring some mid-range weights but with higher reps than I do in my heavy legs outing at weekends.

Thanks for reading, gents. Always appreciated.

Re: Floydy: Training for Tenerife 2016/04/14 15:27:27 (permalink)
This additional legs session will see me doing more sets instead of adding weight for each one. It’s merely an extra ‘boost up’ for my main workout at the weekend. Average weights, yes, but that’s not to say I didn’t push myself – these extra sets are pretty knackering.

Thursday 14/4/16 – Legs (interim session):

1. Incline press:
20x150 warm-up
10x200 – 4 sets
6x250 – 4 sets
50x100 high reps
25x150 high reps

2. Hack squat:
8x150 – 4 sets
5x200 – 2 sets

3. Reverse leg curl:
6x70 – 4 sets

4. Seated horizontal press:
10x200 – 4 sets (1-breath pause only, holding weight)

5. Good girls:
15x60 – 2 sets

6. Bad girls:
15x60 – 2 sets

5. Ab crunches:
50x40
20x50

Pretty much exhausted after that little lot. Not heavy as such but I kept things going with minimal rest, and that’s what destroys me – my energy levels are not what they were and I see that as the only drawback of ageing at the gym. However, I got through it and reckon those high reps are keeping the weight down too.
No session tomorrow – 5 out of seven days is better than I predicted and I haven’t suffered too much at work later on. Full arms workout for Saturday.

Thanks for reading.
