I don't want to count my chickens yet mate, but yes I'm feeling good with it this time.
I might even bring my Saturday session forward to tomorrow, depending on how I feel when I wake up

Woke up this afternoon and my head said 'yes', but the body said 'no', it needs rest and respite from all the hammering it's endured since my return.
On looking in the fridge, four cans of Abbot Ale look rather tempting. No contest - the body wins

I have 6 bottles of Hobgoblin sat in my fridge left over from my birthday a few weeks back, they're looking tempting too :)

Re: Floydy: Training for Tenerife 2016/04/16 11:56:47 (permalink)
A wise move I think to rest yesterday, the remnants of chesticle DOMS still hanging around and making their presence felt like daggers burrowing into my immortal soul
Today an hour’s worth of (as much as I could) isolated triceps and biceps, though of course the chest does come into play a tad but no serious harm has been done methinks. On with the show then…

Saturday 16/4/16 – Full arms:

1. GC BB press (warm up), 15° incline:
25x30

2. JM Press, flat bench:
8x30 – 3 sets
5x40 – 3 sets
*An idea taken from Dave the Ox’s journal the other day. Not too easy to lift the bar at a sort of ‘diagonal push forward’, but working on my technique it should be a good exercise I can add in to these sessions. Cheers Dave

3. CG BB press, 30° incline (using similar move to the JM press but at an angle):
10x25 – 3 sets
*Felt a bit weird and hard to keep the bar in a steady line forwards, but the triceps got a MASSIVE pump on.

4. Single DB raise, 15° incline (interlocked hands around inner DB end):
25x40 – 2 sets
15x50 – 2 sets
*A change from doing the first sets on a flat bench saw the chest come into play more, and even pulled on the abs too. Like it. Too heavy to do the 50kg lifts on an incline though (as yet).

5. Rope pulldown:
6x35 – 2 sets
6x40 – 2 sets

6. Reverse grip cable pulldown:
10x25
10x30
*Very rarely do cables work as my hands are too big for the grips! Found a slightly larger attachment and it worked okay. Forgot how well these pump the triceps.

7. DB concentration curl, alt (seated, across chest):
10x14
10x16
6x18
6x20 PB (for seated reps)*
6x22 PB (for seated reps)*
*Just kept on adding weight. A first for me I think to go above 18kg without using the top preacher bench, just sitting so I award myself 2 PBs.

8. E-Z curl, preacher bench, low vertical pull:
20x23
10x28
*Held the DB at the top of most reps for about 2 sets and lowered slowly.

9. Forearm reverse BB curl, standing:
15x15

10. Ab crunches:
50x40
20x50

This went very well indeed, lots of reps and a good variety with new and revisited exercises. Arms were well pumped at the end of it all.
This afternoon is my usual meeting up with my buddies for a few ales. Tomorrow, legs.

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend.

Ha! yeh as if trying to impress my best mates in their '60s who haven't got a clue about this thing we call keeping fit.
But, firstly it's legs which are my strongest point, then arms I guess. Shoulders definitely last unfortunately!

Thanks Dave. Yeah I think I've got it about right, it's just the pushing forward as opposed to straight up that takes some getting used to!

Enjoyed the afternoon out though. Seven(!) pints of lovely real ale but I'm surprisingly coherent. Sign of a well made beer that.

Well not really. One of my mates is the sort of fella who can't stop talking and knows about everything. Start a sentence and he's off on a tangent, but a good mate all the same.
Can't believe I feel okay after all that booze actually, but it's an essential four hours out after a week of night shifts!

Yis, but it's gotta be done bud. Eases all of the week's blues away. Even if I have to listen to some know-it-all banging on about nothing haha.
On my desktop PC listening to the Doobie Brothers. Feels nice.

Great track that.

I bet you can't wait to get on holiday. Good to see some of the usual monster sessions being nailed.

Cheers bud, yeah love the Doobies. saw them supporting Foreigner a few years ago.

Six months training to my hols now, I intend to crank things up a notch....shame I've come down with a rotten stinker of a cold. That's what happens when you walk to the pub on a lovely summery Saturday afternoon in a t-shirt, on the way back it p!sses down and you get soaked to the skin and wake up Sunday feeling utterly crap.
Must get back to the gym tomorrow, all being well.

Looking like some good sessions here man, you're certainly putting in the effort which is brilliant.

I'm like you with the body parts, legs look best on me too, my shoulders no matter what, lack!

Thanks mate. Yeah, my shoulders are a lost cause really, just do enough so that they don't look out of place with my arms really.

Feeling utterly sh!t today. Dosed up with Lemsip and keeping warm. It's the cold and draughty nights in that sodding warehouse that does it. No training until I shake this thing off, whenever that may be.

Get better soon. No way to give it all to the god of the lifts (=skwatz) in this condition.

And echoing the comment above, I bet your mates in their 60s were well impressed with dem gunz ;)

Just knocked off work for the rest of the night, and taking Wed off too. Had to use holidays though, not sick - funny place where I work. Even if my leg was hanging off it would be "frowned upon".
My mates are used to me in t-shirts when any normal person is wearing a jumper and coat. Serves me right I guess.
